Waldorf-Astoria beekeeping rooftop

Honeybees have taken up residence at the Waldorf-Astoria New York, one of New York City’s most famous institutions and a favorite stopover for many U.S. presidents.

The Waldorf-Astoria New York welcomed this spring 20,000 new guests to their rooftop penthouse where the bees will come to roost every day after sipping on nectar from nearby Central and Bryant Parks.

It’s expected that the colony will eventually multiply to 300,000 and provide up to 500 lbs (227 kg) of honey a year for the hotel restaurant.

Facade Ritz Hotel Place Vendome

At the end of this month, the Ritz Hotel is to close for an unprecedented renovation program due to last two years.

The refurbishment, to be unveiled in 2014 and estimated to cost around 200 million euros, follows the five-star hotel’s missing out on the rank of “palace” in 2011.

Anyone who wants to experience the legendary hotel in its current incarnation has until July 31 to spend the night in one of the rooms (priced at 850 euros per night)!

Samsung ES9000 Smart LED TV

Samsung has just launched its 75-inch (189-cm) ES9000 OLED TV in South Korea with a whopping price of 19.8 Million Won ($17,450).

It is the world’s largest super OLED TV and sports a gorgeous 7.9mm-thick bezel, while its 1GHz dual-core processor allows it to run multiple Smart TV application simultaneously.

The Samsung ES9000 features what the company calls a “Diamond Black Panel” which it claims improves the clearness, contrast and brightness of the display.

After 16 years away, actress Chloë Sevigny has once again landed a Miu Miu campaign, returning to the luxury label to front its Fall/Winter 2012 ads.

Sevigny fronted the house’s Spring/Summer 1996 campaign, and rumors began surfacing recently that the film star was returning to the label.

While the style icon was captured by Juergen Teller for the 96 shoot, this time it was fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott behind the lens.

Forbes‘ new list has declared Hollywood star Tom Cruise world’s highest earning actor after he took home $75 million between May 2011 to May 2012.

While Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol collected close to $700 million worldwide, the 1980s musical Rock of Agesstarring Cruise wasn’t a big draw.

Last year’s highest-paid actor, Leonardo DiCaprio, placed equal second on the list with Comic actor Adam Sandler after each collected $37 million.

The glass slippers designed by Christian Louboutin in honor of Disney’s Cinderella Diamond Edition were unveiled in Paris July 4, with the limited edition red-soled heels adorned in lace, sparkling butterflies and Swarovski crystals.

The footwear designer was invited by Disney to re-imagine the fairytale character’s famous shoes to mark the release of Cinderella Blu-ray Diamond Edition this fall.

The Qatari owners of Harrods are planning to launch a line of hotels under the name of the famous luxury London store.

“The target plan is to open Harrods hotels at sites in key cities such as Kuala Lumpur, New York and Paris as well as in China.

“Preference will be given to construct on sites already owned by Qatar Holding or its affiliates, for example at Chelsea Barracks in London or Costa Smeralda in Sardinia.

The Italian godfather of car design, Sergio Pininfarina, renowned for crafting sleek Ferrari race cars and revolutionising the common auto, died in Turin on Tuesday.

Born in 1926 near Turin in the industrial north of the country, Pininfarina worked with top carmakers during his long career, designing the Ferrari Testarossa, Fiat 124 Spider, Fiat Dino and Maserati GranTurismo, among others.

Europe’s tallest skyscraper to be unveiled

London’s Shard tower will be inaugurated on Thursday to great fanfare — but Europe’s tallest skyscraper has won as many critics as it has admirers.

The inauguration of the jagged-tipped tower, which at 310 metres (1,017 feet) dwarfs nearby landmarks such as St Paul’s Cathedral and the Houses of Parliament, has been carefully timed.

Branded “an icon for London” by its developers, the Shard will be completed just ahead of the Olympic Games, which open on July 27.
