H&M have confirmed that Versace will be the next high fashion label to launch a capsule collection for the high street giant.

H&M has previously collaborated with designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Comme des Garcons, Jimmy Choo and Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz.

Donatella Versace gave the world a sneak peak of what’s in store by wearing one of her H&M designs to the Versace men’s show in Milan yesterday

“Designed by its creative director Donatella Versace, the exclusive collection will look back to the vibrant heritage of the brand, full of leather, print, colour and exuberance in exclusive materials”, the firm said.

‘I am thrilled to be collaborating with H&M and to have the opportunity of reaching their wide audience,’ Donatella Versace said in a statement. ‘The collection will be quintessential Versace, perfect for H&M and Versace fans everywhere.’

The womenswear collection will be dominated by dresses in materials such as studded leather, silk and colourful prints, with accessories including high heels and costume jewellery. There will be around 40 pieces in the women’s collection.

The men’s collection will focus on sharp tailoring, including the perfect tuxedo, as well as belts and jewellery for men too.

The collection will, for the first time in a designer collaboration at H&M, also consist of some homeware pieces, including cushions and a bedspread.

In stores from 17th November, the collaboration will be followed by a pre-spring collection in January 2012.

In 2008, Donatella said that she had declined offers to create a lower-cost line because it didn’t mesh with the Versace ethos.

“I respect everyone who does it. But the reason I didn’t do it is because I work very hard to put the Versace line in the luxury section.

I think to put the Versace line in H&M would confuse the brand,” New York Magazine reported Versace as saying at a New York Times talk.
