Destruction X Rebirth

The Mill x WeJungle presents a demolition art initiative

Jan 28, 2015 | By Staff Writer

Singaporean art collective THE MILL and WeJungle, embark on a Demolition Art initiative to celebrate beauty amidst chaos. From 31st January to 14th February, the creative coalition will host a three weekend long event at the Mill that will feature the works and concepts of local and international artists, musicians, designers, creators and innovators- all exploring the theme of Destruction and Rebirth.

THE MILL, a charming old iconic building situated on Jalan Kilang,  is scheduled to be demolished and re-developed. Hence, their theme of “Destruction & Rebirth” was envisioned as an “Art-Attack” on this mid Century old building, with the purpose of celebrating The Mill’s upcoming re-development as a larger creative hub for artists from various disciplines to be able to come together to synergize and collaborate with one another.

Acknowledging the mutual co-existence and contradictions between the concept of destruction and rebirth, artists will come together to tease out tensions, moments and scenes specifically within the space and frame between the two seemingly opposing forces. This intervention explores the forces of creation, destruction and preservation in its dynamic and sometimes turbulent interaction, taking the Kabbalic notion of rhythm being the basis of life as the point of departure.

Emerging as a creative symbol in a volatile world of creation and destruction, The Mill will showcase a visual feasts of works by WeJungle, Nakayama Yuta, Jason Lim, as well as young emerging local artists Aqilah Hassan, and many more. Guests will also be treated to the auditory pleasures of The Diarists, Tom Shellsuit, and much more.
