Jul 02, 2014 | By Staff Writer

Premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2013, Une danse des bouffons (A Jester’s Dance) is the latest short film from filmmaker Marcel Dzama. Dzama, who cites Dada and Marcel Duchamp among his artistic influences, is somewhat of a cult figure, having designed album covers for band Beck, and counts Brad Pitt, Gus Van Sant and Spike Jonze among his fans. Une danse des bouffons features actress Kim Gordon and a score by Arcade Fire’s Will Butler, Jeremy Gara and Tim Kingsbury. The film is described as a ‘Dadaist love story’ with themes including ‘death and rebirth, multiple identities and dopplegangers, false prophets, love and love lost, the corruption of power and the fragility of what is real or true.’ Une danse des bouffons will be shown at Dzarma’s forthcoming solo exhibition at David Zwirner in New York.
