“OMG who stole my ads?”

Etienne Lavie imagines a world where classical paintings replace advertisements

Mar 28, 2014 | By Staff Writer

At bus stops, traffic lights and billboards, imagine seeing the Mona Lisa instead of the Pepsi ad. On the streets of Paris and Milan, artist Etienne Lavie imagines what it would look like if advertisements were replaced by classical paintings. In some images, it seems laughable how incongruous the paintings are amidst urban life; for instance in the image of a saint at a magazine stand. In others, the paintings look like an organic and natural part of the landscape. Titled ‘OMG who stole my ads?’, Lavie’s project has garnered interest for a simple statement: the triumph of art over consumerism and capitalism. (via Colossal)
