Transarquitetônica by Henrique Oliveira

Artist constructs a network of tunnels made from repurposed wood

May 31, 2014 | By Staff Writer

Brazilian sculptor and painter Henrique Oliveira has completed an art installation of a cavernous network of tunnels made from repurposed wood. This installation, titled Transarquitetônica, is his largest installation to date and is currently being showcased at the Museu de Arte Contemporanea da Universidade in Sao Paolo. Oliveira used inexpensive repurposed wood pieces called tampumes as his main medium for the tunnel framework. This is a signature medium the artist often uses to construct his installations. Due to the expansive space in the museum, Oliveira was able to utilize his resources to create a complex network of tunnels. His installation is also a fully immersive and interactive work where the viewers are welcome to enter the tunnels and get lost in its interior.
