Lamborghini Reopens Museum, Kicks Off Miura Tour

With its renovated layout and displays, the new Lamborghini Museum was reopened on June 9 by Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Lamborghini. The opening coincided with the first stage of the Miura Tour that celebrates the well-loved model’s 50th anniversary this year.

Located at Sant’Agata in Italy, the exhibition space is pure supercar heaven with its display of the car manufacturer’s most prestigious and iconic models of past and present. This includes historic models such as the 1963 350 GT (the location’s first car) and LM 002, as well as concept cars such as a SUV set to debut in 2018.

Super Trefeo racing versions of the Diablo GTR, Gallardo and Huracán will also be on display at a race track-style garage, together with Lamborghini Formula One cars from 1990 and 1991.

The 20 surviving Miuras – all constructed between 1966 and 1972 – from all over the world will go on a journey from the regions of Emilia, and Liguria to Tuscany before completing the journey in Florence on June 12.

Lamborghini 5-95 Zagato back

Zagato reveals unique Lamborghini

Lamborghini 5-95 Zagato back

The 5-95 Zagato is a special commission based on a Lamborghini Gallardo intended to mark the legendary Italian coachbuilder’s 95th anniversary.

Zagato has worked its magic on everything from Ferraris to Aston Martins, Maseratis and of course Lamborghinis, creating some of the most sought-after and collectable cars in each company’s history in the process. Even if, in many cases, the changes are only skin deep.

That’s the case with the 5-95 Zagato. Lift up the bespoke body and underneath is the now defunct Lamborghini Gallardo, which officially ceased production in 2013. Still even if it is no longer a ‘new’ supercar, it’s still capable of hitting 200mph and going from 62mph in 3.5 seconds.

The exterior design, which could as easily be described as challenging as stunning, attempts to reference iconic touches from Zagato commissions of the past. So it’s angular, yet has a double-bubble roof, a wraparound windshield and an elongated nose with curved, two-step opening.

But of course the 5-95 Zagato doesn’t have to be to everyone’s tastes, only to those of a Mr. Albert Spiess.

He is a Swiss supercar collector who already owns a number of Zagatos, including a 1985 Aston Martin V8 Zagato, a 1990 Alfa Romeo S.Z. and a 2012 Aston Martin V12 Zagato, and the person for whom the car was built.

Last Gallardo

The End of the Lamborghini Gallardo

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante

After 10 years of production and over 14,000 examples sold, the final example has rolled out of the company’s factory, destined for a private collector.

The last ever Gallardo is a LP 570-4 Spyder Performante in Rosso Mars red and it is model number 14022. All of which makes the model the most successful and popular in Lamborghini’s at times very checkered history. But it almost wasn’t the case…

The first car to be built from the ground up following Audi’s takeover, the car was regarded by many purists as too ‘German’, too well built and lacking in passion and excitement.

However the company listened to these early criticisms, and by 2005 the car’s performance and handling characteristics had been overhauled. 2005 also saw the hardtop version joined by a Spyder open-top version, which managed to recapture even more of the Lamborghini madness of models past.

The result was a car that looked incredible parked in the driveway, that put a smile on the driver’s face at any speed and that, despite lacking some of the technological gimmicks of some of its peers, could beat the refined Ferrari F430 around pretty much any track thanks to its 520bhp V10 engine and permanent four-wheel drive.

Before the Gallardo, Lamborghini was lucky if it could make and sell 200 cars a year and stay in business. Once the Gallardo found its audience, Lamborghini was able to increase production ten-fold. The company now produces and sells 2,000 cars a year.

Before the Gallardo, the company’s most successful vehicle had been the Espada, the four-seat tourer built between 1986 and 1978 in a quantity of about 1200 examples. The company has only managed to sell 30,000 cars in its history, meaning that nearly half of all Lamborghinis are Gallardos.

But times change and despite a couple of facelifts and specification tweaks, the Gallardo is starting to look its age. And while it can still lap the Ferrari F430, its replacement and therefore the Gallardo’s most direct competitor, the Ferrari 458 Italia, has taken supercar performance to a whole new level.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse

At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Lamborghini is presenting the Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse, a limited edition, “street-legal” version of its famous race car, priced at €191,100 (around $253,300).

Lamborghini said the Squadra Corse is based on the Gallardo Super Trofeo, itself the race car from the one-make Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race series. The name Squadra Corse refers to a newly formed department within Lamborghini corporate that manages all Lamborghini racing activities.

Exterior upgrades for the Squadra Corse include a decal strip in the colours of the Italian flag and a high-gloss black finish for the front air intakes, rear diffuser and 19in alloy wheels. The brake calipers are available in red, black or yellow, and there’s a choice of white, yellow, red or grey paintwork.

A combination of carbon-fibre and Alcantara trim give the interior a racier look, while customers can specify racing bucket seats or “comfort” seats.

Color choices aside, the Squadra Corse will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show with Super Trofeo-inspired styling and a V10 engine that develops 570 HP (419 kW).

The supercar accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.4s and boasts a top speed of 320km/h. Of course, performance like this translates into serious gas guzzling, and the Squadra Corse consumes 13.5L/100km over a mixed driving cycle, emitting 319g of CO2 per km.

Pricing for the special edition Gallardo, which is limited to just 50 units worldwide, starts at $259,100.

Special edition models of the ageing Gallardo included the Tricolore and Super Trofeo Stradale and a number of region-specific versions, such as the Hong Kong 20th Anniversary Edition.
