Louis XIII Le Mathusalem: Six Liter Fine Cognac

Joining forces with crystal maker Baccarat, cognac house Remy Martin presents the world with a unique blend of brandy, the Louis XIII Le Mathusalem. The six-liter cognac, which is brandy from the Cognac region in France, is presented in a crystal carafe by Baccarat that is known as a Mathusalem.

Crafting the specially designed carafe is no easy feat, considering that it takes more than 20 master craftspeople from Baccarat to create it. An old metal flask dug up from a battlefield in 1850 inspired the design and shape of the decanter, while the brand retained Remy Martin’s iconic Fleur-de-lis medallions. Each of the decanters are mouth-blown and numbered while the neck of the bottle is adorned with 24k gold.

The cognac in each crystal carafe has been produced by blending 1,200 eaux de vie that are aged in Remy Martin’s cellars. While some of the cognacs sit in oak barrels for at least 40 years, a select few are even aged for a hundred years. The eaux de vie are made using wine grapes from the Grande Champagne area in the Cognac region; this is the most obvious distinction separating Louis XIII from other cognacs because it is 100% Grande Champagne.

Each limited edition decanter will be accompanied by a pipette that was designed exclusively for the Louis XIII Le Mathusalem. The pipettes are used by the cellar masters to extract and taste each eaux de vie from the barrels. Fans of the cognac can expect the first release to be launched sometime between September to October. Come November, the Louis XIII Le Mathusalem will be available at Harrods, the London department store.

Caviar Spectaculaire

La Prairie teams up with Baccarat

Caviar Spectaculaire

The luxury cosmetics brand has joined forces with Baccarat to launch “Caviar Spectaculaire,” a limited edition bringing together the expertise of La Prairie and the artisans of fine crystal.

A symbol of prestige, the Collection Caviar is one of the most iconic lines in the Swiss brand’s catalogue, mostly as a face cream, though there are also versions for the body.

The pure caviar extract in the products possesses numerous anti-aging properties: it nourishes, lifts and has a firming effect on the skin.

Coming out for fall/winter 2015, “Caviar Spectaculaire” will contain a limited edition 75ml jar of the legendary Skin Caviar Luxe Cream nestled in an exquisite Baccarat crystal caviar server. The customized jar can then be removed and the handcrafted crystal, whose design is based on Baccarat’s famous Harcourt 1841 glass, can be used as a caviar server.

Connecting the serving bowl and the foot is a cobalt blue cabochon, the signature color of La Prairie.

Only 1,500 “Caviar Spectaculaire,” with 940g of Baccarat crystal for the bowl and 75ml of cream in the jar, will be made.

The product will first come out on September 21, exclusively at the La Prairie store at 199 rue Saint-Honoré in Paris, before becoming available in other stores around the world on October 5. Getting your hands on this limited edition product will set you back €1860.

The opening of the new Baccarat hotel marks a new chapter for the 250-year-old crystal company, which is now pitching itself as a lifestyle brand.

Built into the telephone handset, for example, is a button marked “Champagne” that will send up a vintage bottle of bubbly for parched guests with luxury palates.

Luxury French crystal house  has released a trilogy of three short films dealing with the topic of love to celebrate its 250th anniversary.

Each of the three movies has been shot by a female director, with the stories taking place in Paris, London and New York.

The common denominator of the “Legendary Stories” series is the Harcourt stem glass, the brand’s most iconic piece.

The design was first born in 1841 when King Louis Philippe ordered a ceremonial chalice engraved with his monogram.

Revisited over the years, the Harcourt collections are still manufactured today.

The films include “Ex”, an evocative love story set in the opulent Maison Baccarat in Paris, directed by Sonia Sieff.

The second installation, shot by Joséphine de la Baume, tells the tale of an endearingly shy couple who get together in 1960s London.

The final film, by Chiara Clemente, deals with a timelessly modern romance in the New York art world.

“On the occasion of Baccarat’s 250th anniversary, the iconic Harcourt glass becomes the star of three stories of passion,” says the crystal house.

Baccarat Celebrates 250th Anniversary in Paris

Baccarat is celebrating its 250th anniversary with a retrospective exhibition in Paris, showcasing 250 of the brand’s masterpieces over the centuries.

Baccarat 250th anniversary exhibition

“Baccarat: Les 250 ans” takes place in the brand’s Museum-Gallery space and the exhibit will be split into five main themes telling the story of the group’s heritage.

The themes include the story of the famous ‘Harcourt’ stem glass, born in 1841 when King Louis Philippe ordered a ceremonial chalice engraved with his monogram. Revisited over the years, the Harcourt collections are still manufactured today.

Baccarat 250th anniversary

‘Le Rouge à l’Or’ focuses on the vivid golden red color that has become Baccarat’s trademark, a fusion of clear crystal and 24-carat gold. The trend is illustrated by the pair of ‘Simon’ vases designed for the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1867.

The ‘Myriad Colors’ section of the show focuses on a series of colored pieces first released in 1839 and expanded over the years to create kaleidoscopic bursts of crystal. The technique marked a turning point in the history of the brand’s designs.

The final division of the exhibit concentrates on the craftsmanship and expertise the brand has accumulated since its beginning and explores techniques such as cutting, glassblowing, engraving and gilding.

Baccarat Lays Out Anniversary Chess Set

Baccarat is marking its 250th anniversary by collaborating with Japanese design studio Nendo to create a limited edition crystal chess set.

Harcourt Chessgame by Baccarat

The Harcourt Chessgame features hand-cut figures shaped in the form of the king’s crown, the hem of the queen’s robes and the bishop’s miter, and only 50 sets have been produced in total. The pieces were inspired by Baccarat’s Harcourt drinking glass design, which has become something of a design icon over the centuries, known for its distinctive stem shape.

The pieces are made from clear and midnight-blue crystal and come to life as the game is underway, thanks to the contrast cuts and the light reflections from the set’s contemporary glass board. The Baccarat House signature color red is represented via a ruby square placed at the base of the chessboard.

Lancôme teams up with Baccarat

Lancome La Vie est Belle

For an ultra-limited edition of its women’s fragrance, Lancôme called upon Swiss music box maker Reuge and French crystal maker Baccarat to design an exquisite box.

The La Vie est Belle bottle in this collector’s edition is presented beneath two glass bell jars within a handcrafted music box, surmounted by a miniature crystal chandelier.

Reuge produced the music box exclusively for the occasion. When the button on the front is pressed, the box plays “Beautiful Days” by Venus, the theme music from the La Vie est Belle campaign featuring Julia Roberts.

Baccarat provided the crystal chandelier suspended from the top of the box. Made up of 133 crystal drops and 48 crystal tubes, this detail is a nod to the various chandeliers seen in the film campaign.

Only 15 of these pieces will be made available worldwide. Each element of the Edition Féérique was created by hand, meaning that each of the 15 boxes required 120 days of work to produce.

This luxury edition of La Vie est Belle will be available at the Lancôme Institut, the brand’s spa in Paris, from November 15.

In the meantime, visitors to the Sephora store on the Champs-Elysées in Paris will be able to see the box from October 28. The price of this exclusive piece is available only upon request.
