Chris Barnard, a designer with a deeply rooted passion for endurance racing, from Bloemfontein in South Africa, has revealed few details of his new super-car, simply called the Barnard.

Powered by a twin-turbo Porsche V8 engine with a power rating of 617bhp (460kW), Barnard should run from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds, with a theoretical top speed of over 240mph (386km/h).

The car is built on a monocoque chassis made from Domex and Docoal high-tech steels which are light and very strong and it has been designed to accommodate numerous buyers’ desires, in fact it can be personalized to a great extent.

It is wrapped in a composite body with aerodynamics which are inspired by motor racing, for this reason the Barnard is less sports car, more racing car for the road  and it doesn’t  feature power steering, traction control, ABS brakes or power windows.

“This is a car which has been built with the objective of breaking barriers, and no expense has been spared to make it into what I believe is the most single-minded performance machine yet from South Africa” Barnard said “this is a piece of art, but it is functional art.

It is designed to be driven in an enthusiastic manner and appeal to the senses of the performance aficionado.

There is no question that South Africa has the engineering expertise and production skills to build a low-volume hypercar such as this,” added Barnard.

“I think when potential customers examine it closely, whether it be the suspension layout or the fact that the windscreen and side glass have been made locally, specifically for this car, they will realize that it is designed to offer not only a very special motoring experience, but also exceptional quality.

Deliveries should start by the middle of the year, with pricing to fall around the $110,000 mark.
