When one is gathered at the highest concentration of head turning cars at Pebble Beach’s Concours d’Elegance in California and a car like the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet still stands out, it stands to reason that the car in question raises the bar beyond what is traditionally defined as a Head Turning Car. THE car amongst the most magnificent of cars, the Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet redefines luxury automotive manufacture in an industry already wary and cynical of what many brands in the car industry claim to be a luxury car.

Exuding a quiet yet distinctive sensuality, the Vision Mercedes Maybach 6 Cabriolet delivers a raw emotionality thanks to its striking aesthetics whilst hiding innovative technical solutions and technologies under the hood of the hand-finished, ultra-exclusive two seater cabriolet which Mercedes-Maybach describes as a “homage to glorious automotive haute couture”.

Head Turning Car: Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet

“The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet takes modern luxury into the realms of the ultimate in luxury, and is the perfect embodiment of our design strategy. Breathtaking proportions combined with a luxurious “haute couture” interior help to create the ultimate experience,” – Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler AG.

Designed as an electric car, the Mercedes Maybach 6 reinterprets the classic cabriolet with design principles which exaggerate yet sublimate the proportions of a classic car. What results is a thoroughly modern cabriolet with classic car emotionality, grace and intelligence, achieving what Mercedes-Maybach expresses as a philosophy of Sensual Purity.

Technically superlative, visually superior, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is equipped with a drive system capable of 550 kW output or 750 horses while the svelte profile of the new old cabriolet is made possible thanks to the shallow underfloor batter with a range of over 500 kilometres.

Body of the Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet

It becomes easy to understand the head turning appeal of the Mercedes-Maybach 6 when you consider the cabriolet was resting, cat-like, with an elongated length of six metres reminiscent of many of the vintage beauties beside it, yet at the same time, a thoroughly modern rendition of a classic car designed for the future.

Infused with Art deco elements, the retro-futurist aesthetics of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 are played up by virtue of the long bonnet with flowing, unbroken curves – it conveys the essence of a sleek yacht, gliding, not so much driving, along the roads – sportive, aggressive and characterised by powerful structural elements in conjunction with the sharp feature line. Viewed from front corners, the radiator grille presents the profile of an apex predator, shark-like and sleek, especially with the high contrast dark blue paintwork in “nautical blue metallic” and the chrome highlights from head to tail. The newest Mercedes-Maybach cabriolet exudes such effortless luxury that even the newly designed 24-inch light-alloy wheels featuring gilt centre lock don’t particularly call attention to itself.

Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet: The transition between the vehicle rear, the area of the boot lid and the interior boasts a flowing design. Crystal white high-quality nappa leather creates an exciting contrast to the dark paint finish.

Narrow tail lights enhance not just the width of the vehicle but its luxurious “nautical” feel, like a cabriolet with the tail of a pleasure boat, yet as your eye follows the curves of the bodywork of the Vision 6 to the boot lid to the front, the seamless design compliments the crystal white high quality nappa leather which sits within.

The interior of the newest Mercedes-Maybach cabriolet

Complementing the pristine nappa leather is a custom-made fabric top with interwoven rose gold threads which completes the feel of an indulgent craft with 360° open-air luxury lounge. The luxuriant interior of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet manifests the sort of intelligent emotionality that few brands save Rolls Royce manages with such panache – that combination of high tech and classic – the interior of the Mercedes-Maybach 6 is as seamless and curvaceous as its exterior – A light wing flows in a curve across the door trim and the centre tunnel into the seat landscape, creating a 360° open-air luxury lounge. Radiating a sense of effortless opulence when your eyes water at the apparent incongruence “inside out” spatial design which few brands have managed to accomplish effectively.

The feel of classic elegance is further enhanced with the use of a heritage luxury technique commonly associated with the Chesterfield sofa where leather is put into folds of diamond shaped details and then quilted into a lavish tapestry for the upholstered interior of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet – where it defers from your “run-of-the-mill” Chesterfield is that each individual button of the quilting depicts a delicate Mercedes star, backlit in blue while an open-pore wood floor with inlaid aluminium underscores the lounge sensation and the connection to yachting.

With the luxurious interior of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet, Mercedes-Benz demonstrates a new synthesis of intelligence and Emotion.

The Tony Stark Experience as envisioned by the latest Mercedes-Maybach

Aside from an intelligent high tech information delivery system serving required information like navigation and calendar through a touch-control system. Amazingly, you can also talk to Vision (in case it needs to be said, we’re talking about Mercedes-Maybach’s Vision, not the Vision currently serving in The Avengers), made possible due to the unique Concierge function without  using predefined voice commands thus enabling a natural and intuitive means of futuristic voice control freeing you to fully concentrate on driving; while main driving functions as well as information relevant to the location (e.g. restaurant recommendations or information on points of interest) are shown on the windscreen via two head-up displays. If that doesn’t sell the Tony Stark experience of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet, simply cast your eyes to the floating, transparent centre tunnel, which visualises the drive system’s electrical energy flow for the passengers by means of blue fibre optics.

The emission-free Mercedes-Maybach cabriolet features an all-wheel 750 hp drive, allowing for a century-sprint (acceleration from o to 100) in under four seconds. The quick charge system also allows for DC charging based on the CCS standard, the system allows a charging capacity of up to 350 kW. In just five minutes enough power can be charged to achieve an additional range of around 100 kilometres.

Limited to 300 examples, the Mercedes Maybach S‑Class Cabriolet (fuel consumption combined: 12.0 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions: 272 g/km) is the first open-top Maybach in recent history.
