Watch aficionados know that in Patek Philippe’s universe, everything unfolds in its own time. The Genevan manufacturer marches to the beat of its own drum and is always guided by purpose rather than trends. So when Patek Philippe introduced the Reference 7340/1R to its Twenty~4 collection – its dedicated women’s line – at Watches and Wonders in April, it was a great reward of patience.

Seven years after the launch of the round Twenty~4 Automatic, collectors now have what many have quietly hoped for, a grand complication. Patek Philippe could have played it safe with a simpler complication, but it bypassed the expected and went straight for the perpetual calendar – a signature of haute horlogerie, and one of the most revered mechanisms in its repertoire. This is not only the first complication in the Twenty~4 family, but also the first round Twenty~4 model without a gem-set bezel. The result is a cleaner, more architectural silhouette that reflects where Patek Philippe sees the modern female collector: prioritising substance over sparkle, and heritage over novelty.

Powering the 7340/1R is the ultra-thin, self-winding Caliber 240 Q, the same movement behind some of Patek Philippe’s most coveted perpetual calendars. Despite measuring a compact 3.88mm with an elegantly slim profile of 9.95mm, the 275-component calibre with a 48-hour power reserve drives a complete perpetual calendar display that requires no manual correction until 2100.

The perpetual calendar indicators are laid out in a classic tri-compax format: day and 24-hour time at 9 o’clock, month and leap year at 3 o’clock, and a date with moon phases at 6 o’clock. This intuitive configuration creates the instantly recognisable harmonious symmetry that’s defined Patek Philippe perpetual calendars for generations.

The 7340/1R is available in two dial variations. The 7340/1R-001 sports a silvery dial featuring what Patek refers to as a shantung pattern, a vertically and horizontally satin-brushed finish that resembles the silk’s distinctive woven texture. It’s the kind of subtle yet mesmerising detail that’ll have you tilting the watch under different lighting just to admire how beautifully the surface plays with light. If you’re after something with more personality, the 7340/1R-010 flaunts a sunburst olive green dial that feels more contemporary. This is a colour we’ve seen Patek Philippe embrace in recent years, and here, it adds warmth and depth to an otherwise minimalist design.

Both dials are complemented by rose gold Arabic numerals and luminescent-filled baton hands, offering legibility without compromising on refinement. Even the moon phase, rendered on a star-speckled midnight blue sky, is perfectly integrated as per Patek Philippe’s high standards.

The 36mm rose gold case is entirely hand-polished to a mirror finish, with the crown engraved with the iconic Calatrava cross. But one of the most quietly impressive elements of the 7340/1R is its new integrated rose gold bracelet in the same finish. Supremely supple and ergonomically engineered, it features gently cambered central links flanked by slender, two-tier outer links. A patented fold-over clasp is equipped with four independent catches for enhanced security and comfort.

For those who have long awaited a complicated Patek Philippe for women, one that doesn’t sacrifice technical excellence for decorative flair, the 7340/1R delivers a masterful synthesis. It’s where grand complication meets modern elegance – a refined, high-performance timepiece made for the discerning female collector.
