Self-portraits Under the Influence

Bryan Lewis Saunders draws a self-portrait a day while under the influence of various drugs

Mar 13, 2014 | By Staff Writer

Bryan Lewis Saunders took a different drug everyday for a few weeks and drew a self-portrait while under the influence. Explaining why he would conduct an admittedly life-threatening experiment (Saunders experienced extreme lethargy and mild brain damage in the aftermath of the experiment), he says ‘After experiencing drastic changes in my environment, I looked for other experiences that might profoundly affect my perception of self.’ The series includes self-portraits created under the influence of prescriptions drugs like Adderall and Xanax, and hard drugs like Cocaine and Heroin.
