WOW Summer 2017: BaselWorld watches and novelties and more

WOW Summer 2017 Showcases the Best of BaselWorld 2017 and even several new watches that made their debut this year

Jul 03, 2017 | By LUXUO

WOW’s Summer issue has hit the newsstands, this time with a strong focus on BaselWorld 2017 novelties and powerful visually-driven features. Hanging tough on the cover is the Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Amagnetic 3 Days Automatic Titanio, while our cover story tracks every member of the 2017 Submersible collection. It is a saga of timepieces originally conceived for heroes, as pure tool watches, but that have become today highly collectible.

As always, our annual BaselWorld Report delivers the goods on the top highlights from the world’s most important watch fair; this year, our entire Highlights section has been given over to these beauties. There are amazing watches aplenty, from instant classics such as the Rolex Sea-Dweller and the Patek Philippe Ref. 5320G, to the must-haves of tomorrow such as the TAG Heuer Autavia and the HYT H0. At the same time, there innovations to introduce, such as the latest chapter of Patek Philippe’s Advanced Research, and singularly distinguished releases, such as the Bulgari Octo Finissimo, to lust after.

The new watches of 2017 continue to rule our Features section too, with an in-depth trend report on timepieces that are all-new, in most important ways, but look like visions from some sort of alternate past. We also take in all the new releases and make the case for shaped or form watches, especially because these are in short supply and might represent sound investments.

As usual, there’s plenty of eye-candy in the issue to provide a different perspective on time. Strong pairings between watches and music, nature, and sports mark the Summer issue as a standout in the art of visual communication. Don’t take our word for it, go find out for yourself!

Editor of WOW, Ashok Soman, says, “The cautious optimism we witnessed in Geneva is in ample evidence at BaselWorld, with plenty of innovations and clever ideas in the mix. What’s missing — thankfully — is a sense of desperate flailing about. Backroom dealings and profit reports aside, the watches themselves are still cause for celebration.”

Jonathan Ho, Associate Editor for WOW and Group Digital Managing Editor for Luxuo, added, “With a dearth of excess income, the ability to make an informed decision becomes more vital than ever. Therefore, we hope to expand the reach of our content into synergistic online and offline platforms, each augmenting the other to cater to audiences looking for greater detail.”
