Review: Tudor Heritage Advisor

It is old school cool for the Tudor Heritage Advisor, which now comes in a colorway that will fit right in with Jay Gatsby’s ensemble.

Beyond the somber blacks and airy silvers, brands have been offering dress watches with blue dials for buyers who are looking for something a little different. Not Tudor. This year, for the third colorway in its Heritage Advisor line, the manufacture has opted for cognac instead.

Compared to blue, cognac gives off a decidedly more traditional vibe. Tudor has chosen the color for good reason – the Heritage Advisor is, after all, a reinterpretation of a 1957 model. Tudor’s contemporary take on the watch retains the original’s shape, proportions, and details such as dauphine hands and beveled markers, but has been upsized from 34mm to 42mm to suit the modern wrist. The new watch is also in titanium that, according to the manufacture, imparts a better sound quality to the alarm.tudor-heritage-advisor

Like its siblings, the new Heritage Advisor’s cognac dial is made up of five sections with four different surface finishes. The middle portion of the dial is opaline, the sub-dial at six o’clock housing the calendar hand is circular grained, the minute track has a satin sunburst texture, and the outer flange and power reserve indicator disc at three o’clock are sandblasted. Beneath the dial is an ETA 2892 movement with an additional alarm module developed in-house by Tudor.

Functionally, the Heritage Advisor’s controls mirror its dial layout – split across a few distinct parts. The pusher at eight o’clock toggles the alarm function, which displays its status at nine o’clock. The alarm itself is wound and set by the crown at two o’clock; the central red hand points to the time the alarm will activate, and the disc at three o’clock indicates its (separate) power reserve. Meanwhile, winding the base movement and setting its date and time is done via the crown at four o’clock.tudor-heritage-advisor-cognac_fabric_black_f_xl_rvb

As is common for Tudor, the Heritage Advisor will ship with two straps. Each buyer has a choice between a steel bracelet and a brown alligator strap with a deployant buckle for the first. The second is a black silk strap made according to traditional Jacquard weaving methods, which Tudor has sourced from a hundred-year-old family business based in France’s Saint-Étienne region.
