One of the most fascinating things about mechanical clocks and watches is that these timepieces function on nothing more than minuscule bits of metal, all with very specifically designated purposes, and all of which come together to form a whole that’s greater than the sum of parts. If you’ve always loved watchmaking for this reason, then the Schlumpf Innovations Time Machine would be the perfect centrepiece for your office or home. The torpid cadence it emits is almost meditative, eliciting a calming effect.

At approximately two metres in height and with huge 60cm gears, Time Machine is more kinetic sculpture than timepiece. This grandiose steel structure is unlike any conventional clock in that its gears turn in a non-linear way. Instead of a constant rotation, each gear turns in response to the torque required by others along the transmission. As none of the gears are connected by axles, they all move in a syncopated rhythm.

The main frame can be finished in black or nickel on a high-gloss polished base. Gears, screws, pendulum, weight, and anchor are available in copper, nickel, or gold plating.
