Top 100 Yachting Personalities in Asia-Pacific (Malaysia)
YACHT STYLE’s “Who’s Who of Yachting in Asia”, salutes those who have made it to the top 100 power-list. This year, emphasis has been given to the dealer and broker faces who are particularly active in Asian emerging markets. Overall, with close to 20 per cent new entries, it shows how the industry is vibrant and reinventing itself.
CURTIS Richard, Dato (MALAYSIA)
As a Malaysian-resident businessman, past Commodore of the Royal Selangor Yacht Club
and Chairman of the Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta, Curtis is known for his years spent refining the Regatta’s format and for his joint ownership – with HRH Sultan of Selangor – of the oldest Asian built sailing yacht: the 105-year-old gaff rigged cutter Eveline, a familiar sight in the region’s regattas.
IBRAHIM Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan (MALAYSIA)
Best known in watersports for his Cigarette speedboat, HRH the Sultan of Johor has dabbled in small fast superyachts and provided an impetus for the creation of marinas in this southern Malaysian state opposite Singapore. He also has a gold 737-800 private jet, helicopters and is a Harley Davidson aficionado.
IDRIS Tengku Sharafuddin (MALAYSIA)
The Sultan of Selangor sailed around the world in his Swan 68 Jugra. As Raja Muda (Crown Prince), he was a co-founder and Royal Patron of the Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta, which he has frequently participated in. Tengku Idris is the Royal Patron and Life Commodore of the Royal Selangor Yacht Club.
OH Kean Shen (MALAYSIA)
As managing Director of a family-owned shipyard in Penang, Oh founded Pen-Marine which is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2018 as representative of leading boat brands in Malaysia – such as Princess Yachts, Wider, Grand Banks and Leopard Catamarans. Oh is a pioneer member of the Association of Marine Industries of Malaysia and assisted with the formation of the Langkawi International Yacht Registry and was an advisor to the EPU (Economic Planning Unit) on the development of marinas in Malaysia.
