In these sensual, erotic and delightfully delicious oil paintings, painter Lee Price shows herself eating food in intimate settings. Her series, called Le Nudite, catches herself indulging in food and unhealthy desserts that are often viewed as “guilty pleasures”. Looking at these paintings makes the viewer relate to the instances presented by her in these paintings, probing them to reflect upon their own indulgences.  We all share such greedy, indulgent moments afterall.

In these realistic works, Price intentionally presents herself as an unapologetic snacker. Her smile, glow and sensual oblivion show a sense of liberation and empowerment. She looks free and comfortable lying surrounded by unhealthy foods. Realistically, we would feel guilty bingeing in the bathtub and snacking on ice cream in bed. However, these insecurities and guilt are largely caused by the societal pressure to be skinny which also tells us to shy away from such indulgences. Instead, Price shows the importance of taking time for oneself to indulge in one’s private space.

Price explains: “In this society, there’s so much pressure for women to be thin. We’re not supposed to have appetites – and not just for food, but for a lot of things. We’re the givers and not the consumers, and I think some of my recent paintings are about the women staring at the viewers and saying, ‘I’m not going to censor my appetite.’”
