One of Australia’s richest men, Clive Palmer, has drawn criticism for buying his teenage daughter a yacht worth AU$5.3m.
Child experts say that giving multi-million dollar gifts to teenagers is dangerous because it gives them unrealistic expectations about money.
Psychologist Renee Mill says that whilst it is commonplace for many wealthy parents to give expensive gifts like this, it amounts to irresponsible parenting.
“A lot of the rich and famous spoil their children and they get used to it their whole lives,” she said, in the Courier Mail.
“But if they lose that money, then nine times out of 10 those kids, as adults, have tremendous difficulty getting on their feet and looking after themselves.”

“But if they lose that money, then nine times out of 10 those kids, as adults, have tremendous difficulty getting on their feet and looking after themselves.”
There are so many things wrong with the entire super-yacht gift that transcend just a spoiled kid. There are issues of class, race, entitlement and privilege that will damage that girl more. Chancesd are that she will NOT become poor and it’s wishful thinking that her dad will ever lose his money.
Clive you are such a nice and wonderfull dad and its nice to see how you care for your family, but why have you forgot about your brother who struggles to survive and always looks up to you. Also your other neffews and neice,I see that some of them have been taken under your wing.
All I hear in that article is bitching an moaning by the press and “child experts” about some rich girl who they probably know very little about. Who’s to say that she shouldn’t get that. It’s not my place, is it yours? I’m sorry, but everything is relative. Meaning that her father’s gift isn’t that big of a deal when he has billions (yes I realize most of that is tied up in assets). What else was he going to do with that money?
I bet the child experts want it tbh…
What could she have possibly done to have deserved a super yacht? Come On Now be serious.
