In commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11’s first lunar landing, which takes place on Jul 20th, Louis Vuitton has designed a custom-made “Malle Mars” trunk.

The robotic, space age-looking piece opens in multiple places, unveiling a variety of compartments and drawers, fully equipped to carry various essential items.

Medication, tools, picnic wares, and more…plus a folding lounge chair for leisurely account of the Martian landscape.

The trunk will be on display this coming Monday, at the Rose Center for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History.

History-making astronauts Buzz Aldrin, Jim Lovell and Sally Ride will be in attendance along with Louis Vuitton North America president and chief executive officer Daniel Lalonde.

Also for the occasion, LV is donating an undisclosed sum to Al Gore’s Climate Project.
