If there was any watchmaking brand which could turn bronze to gold, it would be Rado. The pioneer of high tech ceramics has turned its considerable materials know-how on an age old, less than noble element and turned it into a seamless union of ancient and modern production techniques in the new Baselworld 2018 Rado HyperChrome Bronze Chronograph.

Baselworld 2018 Rado HyperChrome Bronze Chronograph

The new Rado HyperChrome Chronograph Automatic is now available in a beautifully
contrasting bronze and high-tech ceramic construction but the real kicker is that while the bronze would patina like any other bronze watch, Rado’s execution for their new HyperChrome Bronze chronograph sees the ancient material finished and polished to gold-like levels.

Limited to 999 pieces, the new Rado HyperChrome bronze Chronograph Automatic in materially contrasting bronze and high-tech ceramic both begin in a state of sublime polished finishing before the contrast turns stark with the passing of time as the bronze develops a rich patina. Boasting lightness and superior scratch resistance on its ceramic components, the sporty-chic Baselworld 2018 Rado HyperChrome Bronze Chronograph is among some of the lighter chronographs seen at Baselworld despite its 45mm large-ish proportions.

Taper lugs and an expressively curving midcase makes the latest HyperChrome Chronograph wear a little smaller visually than what is usually expected for 45mm. The midnight black ceramic adds to the visual illusion of a much smaller, more refined chronograph. Gorgeously, the side inserts and chronograph pushers crafted in bronze – humanity’s oldest alloy. Rose gold coloured hands and indexes echo the subtle metallic sheen of the bronze, while a bezel engraved with a tachometric scale provides additional functionality.

“A need for true matter is driving designers to reach out for unusual directions, wilder
ideas and primitive ingredients such as lava, metal and bronze,” observes renowned
trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort.
