The Temporary Residency in Sydney pays tribute to the late Virgil Abloh’s Spring/Summer collections from 2019 to 2022 showcasing the most exclusive pieces.

Four weeks ago on 15 December, Louis Vuitton had set up a Temporary Residency in Sydney’s Central Business District on the corner of Pitt and King Streets. The Temporary Residence is part of a worldwide series of events, created by the house and it is dubbed as “Walk in the Park”. The exhibition stays true to the principles of the late Virgil Abloh’s work — expressing the connectivity between him and the community.

Visitors are welcome to step into the Temporary Residency to discover iconic sneakers and accessories from the brand’s men’s Spring/Summer collections from 2019 to 2022. The showcase also provides a rare opportunity to obtain coveted limited-edition releases and reissues of sneakers, sunglasses, and jewellery.

Abloh had wanted visitors to experience iconic Louis Vuitton pieces up close and personal, and immerse themselves in its creative evolution. Throughout the exhibit, the designs are colour-coded according to the colours of the rainbow, a nod to Abloh’s debut show for the Maison for its Spring/Summer 2019 show.

The collection of over 40 sneakers at the Temporary Residency in Sydney includes various editions of the iconic LV Trainer, which first appeared in Abloh’s inaugural collection. A broader retrospective of the LV Trainer through the seasons also makes its appearance — a rare opportunity for sneakers aficionados to participate and engage with the collections.

The latest LV Trainer Upcycling from the Spring/Summer 2022 collection is available for purchase. 100 pairs of these sneakers are available in a Sydney-exclusive colourway.

Following the upcycling ideology Abloh had conceptualised for the Spring/Summer 2021 collection — where upcycle looks from prior collections are combined with new looks — the new edition of the footwear created for the Temporary Residency was crafted from upcycled LV Trainer material as the name suggests.

The LV Runner Tactic sneaker that was introduced at the men’s Spring/Summer 2022 show will be pre-launched in green. As the name implies, the Runner Tactic was inspired by running shoes and is crafted from a mix of mesh textile and suede calf leather with reflective Monogram Flowers on the side.

Other exclusive accessories include the 1.1 Millionaire Sunglasses in purple and Monogram Kites. The 1.1 Millionaire Sunglasses are available in over 20 colourways. The sunglasses are reminiscent of eyewear worn in the late 1920s in Al Capone-dominated Chicago — the windy city also used to be the old stomping grounds of Abloh himself.

The Monogram Kites were featured in Abloh’s first show in Paris, and also the most recent one in Miami. Six of these will be available and they are made from technical nylon construction and features an all-over monogram print, and come complete with a striking red embossed monogram canvas carry case.

The Temporary Residency is open now and will continue to be open every day until 15 March 2022 at 138 Pit Street, Sydney.

Also in the realm of men’s fashion, Saint Laurent unveiled its Spring/Summer 2022 menswear collection. The collection leaned heavily into the brand’s archive of the 70s and 80s and was described as “a fantasy on a Victorian dark romance” by Anthony Vaccarello. Ruffled open-collared shirts and flowy capes dominated the runway — and the vintage-themed pieces were beautifully juxtaposed with the futuristic set designed by Doug Aitken.
