Everything You Need To Know About The North Face x Gucci Collaboration
Sports meets fashion, The North Face x Gucci collaboration represents our desire to explore nature and its offerings.
Fashion insiders are constantly on the lookout for something new and unique. When The North Face released a teaser about a collaboration with Gucci in September 2020, fans were sent into a frenzy as it was an unexpected partnership.
The American retailer has had past collaborations with brands such as Supreme, MM6 Maison Margiela and Brain Dead. But for Gucci, its partnership with The North Face is the first time the brand has teamed up with another brand. The inaugurating collection “celebrates the spirit of exploration,” a feeling that has rested dormant for the most part of 2020.
Building on this desire to venture outside, the collection managed to reignite our adventurous spirit, even if it means vicariously living it through the accompanying video.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Alps, the press images and videos showed models venturing out with gaiety while donning the new collection.
Extensiveness is perhaps the word that could aptly describe this partnership as the collection includes a range of apparel and accessories. From windbreakers to bags, even a Gucci-fied tent is emblazoned with the collaborative logo of The North Face and Gucci. The former’s quarter-circle stamp blends seamlessly with the latter’s green-red-green stripe, creating a new monogram seen throughout the collection.
The entire collection brings together an eclectic mix of aesthetics that Michele greatly adores. Having access to the archives of The North Face, the famed designer updated the ruggedness of the athleisure brand with maximalist touches. The apotheosis transports us back to the heyday of the vibrant ’70s — bright colours and multiple floral prints.
Having a vast range of products in mind, the duo has not forgotten about minimising the collection’s impact on the environment. Being sustainable plays a massive role in both brands. For this partnership, they have utilised Econyl, an eco-friendly nylon fabric sourced from fishing nets, to make their bags and luggage. Gucci will send the products to you in a recyclable cardboard box with a handle, reducing the need for shopping bags when you purchase a product.
The first-ever collaboration between The North Face and Gucci was a resounding success. The pieces instantly became must-haves and stocks were wiped clean. Following the success of this co-branding effort, the brands had launched a second collection together at the start of 2022.
