Burberry crossed a social media threshold this week: earning two million fans on Facebook.

The British company has invested heavily in its online platforms and digital marketing strategy and has quickly risen to become luxury’s digital darling.

Burberry regularly posts product announcements, photos, and even acoustic performances on the social networking site.

In its latest move to engage customers, Christopher Bailey, chief creative officer at Burberry, posted a video message urging fans to post any questions regarding the label via Burberry’s wall.

Women’s Wear Daily reported that Bailey will add a video on Burberry’s Facebook page answering those questions.

Burberry reached one million fans this past April, a year after setting up its Facebook page.

With its current fan base, the brand now ranks as the seventh most popular fashion brand on Facebook, according to Stylophane.

The San Francisco-based online-marketing firm tracks and ranks a brand’s Facebook fan base daily on its Facebook Fashion Index.

Converse, which boasts more than seven million fans on Facebook, outpaces Burberry by nearly five million and holds the top position on Stylophane’s Facebook Fashion Index.

However, Burberry is the highest-ranked luxury brand on the Index, preceding Gucci (1.97 million fans), Chanel (1.91 million fans) and Prada (590,000 fans).

In addition to maintaining a sizzling Facebook presence, Burberry also launched a separate website — artofthetrench.com — in fall 2009.
