Wyndham has become the latest hotel chain to open a new property in Panama, with this week’s launch of the Wyndham Garden Hotel Panama City.

The 70-room hotel, located in the city’s quiet and exclusive Obarrio neighbourhood, is yet further proof of the hotel boom in Panama, which is currently has more properties under construction than anywhere else in Central and South America.

The property is  aimed at both business and leisure travellers, with 32-inch flatscreen televisions, marble bathrooms, a fitness center, restaurant and bar.

Paying tribute to Panama’s attractions, such as the historic center, natural parks and museum and shopping areas, Wyndham’s president Jeff Wagoner described the city as a “fast-growing hub for travel.”

His comments echoed those of the Trump hotel brand, which plans to open its own property above Panama Bay this spring to serve a market it has described as “burgeoning”.

Starwood-owned brand Westin is also set to open a 611-room property named the Westin Playa Bonita Panama, targeting tourists with its three restaurants, several pools, a full-service spa and spectacular views of the Panama Canal.

Last year, travel guide publisher Lonely Planet named the country one of its top ten places to visit in 2011.
