The New Volvo V60 Estate To Serve A More Premium Market

Previously, the new Volvo 60 had been spotted wearing the usual camouflage test mules before it made an official debut, but after a much-anticipated wait, Premium automaker, Volvo Cars has proudly unveiled the new Volvo V60 Estate.

The new Volvo V60 Estate is the second cluster of the Volvo’s 60 models to get a complete new treatment after the XC60. After a comprehensive overhaul, the latest version – the new V60 – is ready to re-position its branding in the market to serve the high-end segment than it’s been perceived in the past.

Perhaps, designed to compete directly with the BMW 3 Series Touring and the Audi A4 Avant, Ford Mondeo and Opel Insignia, the newly redesigned Volvo V60 has joined the ranks of its its larger sibling, the V90 estate and the XC60 SUV. Additionally, the new model was made to replace the current model of the wagon and the car models in its range that are about seven years old now.

The design of the interior and exterior follows the similar vein to other recently updated models in the Volvo family. The exterior reflects a more “shrunken” version of the V90 estate, however, a lot of other similarities between the V60 and V90 have been retained. The V60 has also taken other design cue and inspiration from the XC60.

The new Scalable Product Architecture

Volvo’s New Electrification Strategy: The Scalable Product Architecture

Under the hood of the new V60 highlights the four-cylinder petrol, the diesel engines as well as a single plug-in hybrid powertrain. The new electrification strategy, according to the experts of Volvo cars, in which the company introduced the plug-in hybrids across the entire range, will also be applied to the entire new range of electrified smaller cars and build a fully electric car for sale by 2019.

As part of this new strategy, Volvo Cars said it “expects electrified vehicles to account for up to 10 per cent of total car sales in the medium term.” The first element of the new electrification strategy has already begun with the 90 series and 60 series larger cars, based on the company’s new Scalable Product Architecture.

There will be two hybrid options in the V60 lineup: One will be a T6 Twin Engine badged version, featuring a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine coupled with an electric motor to produce 335 bhp; the other will be the more familiar and powerful T8 system with an impressive 385 bhp.

The beauty Inside

Some of the notable features of the V60: The panoramic roof, a large legroom in both the front and rear seats, special tinted glass to reduce the transmission of unwanted heat and UV radiation, a sleek centre display with touch screen and distinctive air vents featuring a vertical central strip with a metal finish and the decor in Driftwood, a wood treatment that is satisfying to look at and touch, and which references Volvo Cars’ Swedish heritage.
