H. Moser & Cie. Is Capturing The Pioneering Spirit With The Colour Green

While almost everyone has their eyes on developing a vaccine for Covid-19, H. Moser & Cie. is making a pledge to support research in ALS with its new Pioneer watch collection.

H. Moser & Cie. has joined in the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) by creating two limited-edition watches — the Pioneer Centre Seconds and the Pioneer Tourbillon “CURE ALS”. These watches are created in support of the research into ALS that is conducted by Duke ALS Clinic, where it is known to be one of the largest and most comprehensive care centres in the world.

With comfort in mind, the Pioneer collection is designed for everyday wear that is fitting for the present day. Just like the collection’s name, the watch celebrates pioneering spirits everywhere and especially, in honour of Loy Steward who was the owner of Detyens Shipyards. Being an avid watch collector himself, Steward worked together with his close friend, George Wendt and H. Moser, in designing the Pioneer collection but after battling with the disease for 19 years, Steward, unfortunately, passed on.

Green is at the centre of this collection (literally) and is the source of inspiration for the watch as the shade was specifically chosen to represent the book that Steward used to gift to everyone he met in addition to the other symbolisms the colour holds such as hope and the belief in humanity. The dark green dial is accompanied by matching green alligator leather and each watch also comes with a black rubber strap. The indices are tipped with a luminescent dot and the leaf-shaped hands are partially skeletonised to exude an open and streamlined aesthetic.

If you are looking for something more exquisite then the Tourbillon model might appeal to you more as the HMC 804 Manufacture calibre is made visible behind the skeletonised bridge of the 60-second flying tourbillon at the 6 o’clock position. This highlights the craftsmanship and ingenuity of the brand.

To obtain the Pioneer Centre Seconds watch, you will need to have a minimum of USD$16,000 and there are only 15 pieces for sale while the Pioneer Tourbillon “CURE ALS” watch will require a minimum of USD$55,000 with only 5 pieces for sale. Proceeds from the watches will go into the funding of a professorship for a scholar in the field of neurology specialising in ALS in the School of Medicine.
