Damien Hirst for Louis Vuitton

Damien Hirst, famed for playing with formaldehyde and medical instruments for his art work, also worked with Louis Vuitton to create a one-off Medical Cabinet

Damien Hirst is one of six people who were asked in 2008 by Louis Vuitton to dream up a unique item embodying their professional expertise.

The designs were produced at the company’s workshop in Asnieres, near Paris, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.

Official news and images have now been revealed, and the twin trunks created by the English Art Superstar are more impressive than we first thought.

Damien Hirst was inspired by the movie Dead Ringers by David Cronenburg in which a display of beautiful stainless steel surgical instruments caught his eye.

In line with Damien’s desires the twin trunks have been made in black Nomade leather with a deep blue microfibre lining.

The leather has been specially printed with an array of butterflies individually placed by Damien himself. Two silver skulls are incrusted in each of the inside of the lids.

Each trunk contains 10 different sized drawers with compartments made to accommodate each individual surgical instrument.
