Anastasia Pottinger highlights the beauty in old age by photographing people over 100 years old

May 27, 2014 | By Staff Writer

Anastasia Pottinger’s series Centenarians shows what it means to age gracefully. For the project, she photographed people over 100 years old, focusing on the beauty that accompanies growing older. The wrinkles and lines are testament to lives lived, experiences had, and the natural passage of time that we cannot control or fight against. Pottinger explains the origin of the project on her website saying “This body of work was born out of the opportunity I had to photograph a 101 year old woman who volunteered, on her own accord, to model nude for me. It was merely an exercise in documenting her form in a beautiful way… When I later reviewed the images on my computer, I knew I was looking at something very special.”
