Pay with your hand using vein scanning

It might sound creepy, but Swedish company Quixter has developed a payment method based on “vein-scanning.”

Designed to make transactions quicker and easier, the technology works by scanning the unique vein patterns in each person’s palm.

Users simply key in the last four digits of their phone number before holding their hands over the scanner. The process takes less than five seconds.

The brainchild of Quixter founder Fredrik Leifland, the machine is thought to be the first of its kind on the market. It is currently in action at 15 different spots around Sweden’s Lund University campus, with around 1,600 users.

“I got the idea when I was in line at the supermarket,” explains Leifland. “I thought that there must be an easier way to pay.”
