Jimmy Choo Autumn Winter 2011ad campaign

Jimmy Choo has unveiled its Autumn Winter 2011 advertising campaign, shot for the first time by fashion photographer Steven Meisel.

The campaign is inspired by cinematic 1970s Parisian glamour and conveys the darker, subversive side of femininity.

Meisel lenses Raquel Zimmermann in the old-world glamour of New York City’s Waldorf Astoria and captures a scene of stolen, or perhaps forbidden, romance.

Versace voiced its support on Thursday for a campaign to stop the sandblasting of jeans — a practice used to give jeans a fashionable faded look.

The Italian fashion giant said that none of its suppliers were using the controversial technique and that it had now joined an international campaign “to encourage the elimination of sandblasting as an industry practice.”

Following collaborations with H&M and French mail-order company La Redoute, Karl Lagerfeld has been working on a collection with US department store Macy’s.

Scheduled for an August 31 launch at more than 200 Macy’s stores and online, the 45-piece collection will be priced from $50 to $170.

In addition to the sketches just released by the designer, curious shoppers can take a first look at the range in the August issue of American Vogue where a $109 dress from the collection is featured in one of the fashion spreads.

Hyphen Design was drafted in by Fitch London to help them design and realise mobile customer configurator kits for the new McLaren MP4-12C supercar.

Hyphen have, so far, supplied Mclaren with 50 of the cases, which contain all the paint, material and trim options for Mclaren’s much anticipated new car.

The cases are designed to be taken outside the dealers for visiting customers in their homes, and give the customers a chance to choose paint colour, fabric choices, upholstery stitching colour, wheel colour and brake calliper colour.

Cult beauty brand Kiehl’s launched its first-ever spa in New York, the city where it all began 160 years ago, on Wednesday.

Fans of the label will be able to enjoy treatments performed exclusively with its products in a two-story locale at 157 East 64th Street on the Upper East Side.

The ground floor hosts a conventional Kiehl’s store, while the spa called 1851 — alluding to the brand’s founding year — occupies the second floor.

When it comes to the best-performing fashion brand on the international stock exchange, you would most probably expect a name along the lines of the Pradas of this world, but it’s under-the-radar Mulberry that takes the crown.

Bloomberg reports that the British luxury handbag maker’s stock rose by 526 percent over the past year. Overseas revenue more than doubled over the same period.

In retail, its growth is currently only topped by PT Mitra Adiperkasa, a company that runs Starbucks coffee shops and Sogo department stores in Indonesia.

Online travel agent Expedia has revealed that it is seeing an increased interest in cruises to Europe in response to cuts in air capacity between America and Europe.

The year so far has seen increased interest in European cruises from US consumers. There was “tremendous value” to be secured for travelers right now.

According to the firm, cruise lines are currently cutting rates for European tours, “without cutting services,” sometimes giving travelers a cheaper option than flying to the region and staying in a hotel.

Rappers’ fascination with luxury brands is far from dying down: following this summer’s surprise hit “Gucci Gucci” by Kreayshawn, it is Soulja Boy who is expressing his fashion love with an EP dedicated to Bernard Arnault.

Soulja Boy has turned his attention to Arnault’s signature brand Louis Vuitton, offering lyrics such as: “It don’t make no sense why they LV fake. But mine’s real!”

But while Soulja Boy manages to mention and correctly pronounce the label more than 60 times, Arnault likely won’t be pleased with being called Robert instead of Bernard several times as part of the new song.

Six months after he finally took delivery of the Eclipse, the world’s largest yacht, Roman Abramovich is offering it up for charter at a rate of $2 million per week.

The 538-ft. Blohm + Voss behemoth is available via ultra-exclusive brokerage SuperYachtsMonaco, and is the world’s most expensive yacht charter by far.

The yacht, which has space for 30 guests and 75 crew, reportedly features a military-grade missile defense system, armor plating, bulletproof windows, three helipads, two swimming pools and a wellness center, among other luxe amenities.

Luxury hotel chain Ritz-Carlton is to open its second “reserve” property in Puerto Rico, the company announced July 18.

The 114-room resort will be situated on Dorado Beach, a name many Caribbean-lovers will be familiar with as the site of Laurance S Rockefeller’s original eco-resort, launched in 1958 as the first of its type in the region.

As of December 2012, the resort will also be home to the second Ritz-Carlton Reserve, surrounded by Rockefeller’s original “great park” and spread across 50 acres with a mile (1.6 km) of beachfront.

The collection consists of three elegant proposals: the Tote Bag, a casual-chic shopping bag in caracas raw linen fabric and leather trims; a practical zipped wallet and a beige pashmina shawlwith the color of the boutique where it is sold.
