Toy retailer ToysRUs has paid $5.1m for the Toys.com domain name.

It is believed to be the biggest payout for a domain this year but has some way to go to beat the $14m paid for sex.com in 2007 or the $9.5m paid for porn.com.

“Toys.com is going to put them in the top search ranking and is likely to give them kudos in terms of brand recognition,” said Sedo’s business development manager Nora Nanayakkara.

SUV.com hopes to spin $12 million in dough

While the domain name pizza.com went for a cool $2.6 million to an anonymous buyer, here is yet another domain name that is being up for grabs at a whopping $12 million. Kendra Cook, is the very lucky millionaire owner of this domain name. She cites that internet domain names have most recently been recognized as serious investments for growth, commanding the multi-million dollar transactions that translate into an understanding of their intrinsic value as virtual real estate.

This website has been operational for a long, at least by internet standards, 8 full years right from 1995 to 2003. In early days, it used to host an online lifestyle magazine along with many, make and build forums and enjoyed great traffic.

Kendra Cook wants to contribute her bit to charity and says that she will donate a part of the proceeds from the sale of SUV.com to charitable organizations.

Pizza.com sells for $3 million

pizza com Pizza.com sells for $3 millionFor a $20 investment, Chris Clark a tech entrepreneur, made the best decision in his life. He bought the domain name Pizza.com in 1994 for twenty bucks and sold it recently for almost $3 million.

A week’s worth of anonymous bidding at an online auction site had pushed the price to $2.6 million, compared to the fact that most domain names go for around $2000, we’d say Clark has a good deal on his hands and a great pie going in his favor.

He was tempted to let go of the name after he learnt that vodka.com sold for $3 million.
