When it comes to materiality, certain brands in the furniture trade specialise in them. From precious marble to sparkling glass, and even luxurious leather, here are some of the brands you ought to know if you’re looking to spruce up your interiors.

Glas Italia — Proficient In Glass

Established in 1972 in Brianza, Italy, Glas Italia is synonymous with the manufacturing of glass into furniture objects. Their passion for glass combined with research into the material strength, translucency, and colouration, has led them to create some of the most stunning glass furniture in the world.

Working with renowned designers such as Patricia Urquiola and Piero Lissoni, the creativity of ideas on pen has materialised into actual, functional objects displaying originality and sophistication. Most notable pieces are “Wireframe” tables where irregular-parallel-piped-shaped extra-light glass slabs come together to form a coffee table.

On the other hand, Patricia Urquiola’s “Liquefy” is all about creating veining and swirls on glass, akin to marble. The organic decoration on coloured glass gives these low tables a sense of mystery. Urquiola’s “Shimmer” side tables are another charmer. Characterised by an iridescent multichromatic finish, the hues vary based on the angle of the light source so every piece can appear uniquely ethereal.

Fiam — Skilled In Mirrors

This brand needs no introduction when it comes to making glass and mirrors. Established in 1973, its research into glass combined with top-notch designers has led them to produce some of the most stunning glass furniture money can buy.

The “Caadre” mirror imagined by French design great Philippe Starck is both visionary, futuristic, and timeless. The striking mirror is a mix of craftsmanship and deep research into glass-making to create the curved edges. Made from semi-reflective titanium glass, it can be hung vertically or horizontally. The back-lit LED lighting with a dimmer switch is an updated version that celebrates the 20th-anniversary edition.

The preeminent female designer Cini Boeri’s “Ghost” chair designed in 1987 is a monolithic masterpiece. Featuring 12mm-thick curved glass to create this arresting chair was pure research into the resilience and rigidity of the material. It’s no wonder this chair is now the company’s icon as it is on display at MOMA in New York and also snagged the Compass D’oro Design Award in 1979.

Cierre — Forerunner In Leather

Cierre is a family-run business where the specialty is crafting leather-based furniture. Founded in 1972, it supports the “Made in Italy” design philosophy. Leather is everything to this brand.

It takes this raw material and treats it with respect. The brand has one of Italy’s best tanneries where the finishing, printing, and colouring of leathers have led it to produce a wide variety of colours to satisfy many home interiors.

Most notable pieces from Cierre are the “Oscar Poltrona” sofa/armchair systems and the “Season” modular sofa system.

Baxter — Leather Experts

With more than 30 years in the leather business, Baxter furniture items are renowned for their understated luxury. Their deep understanding of these exquisite skins has led them to create the perfect recipe to tan, treat and colour them.

This 100 per cent Italian business founded in the 1990s has flourished into a global brand where their leather sofas and armchairs are loved by design heads everywhere.

Marsotto Edizioni — Marble Magic

Famed for its marble products, Marsotto Edizioni was founded in 2009 under the direction of James Irvine. The factory is situated in Verona, Italy, and delves into research on this luxurious resource.

Working with renowned designers and architects, Marsotto Edizioni has revolutionised marble and made them into accessible pieces for domiciles all over the world. The brand’s iconic pieces are “Galata” designed by Konstantin Grcic and “Mimmo” dining table designed by James Irvine.

Ceccotti — Artisans of Wood

With 60 years of woodworking , Founded in 1956, Cecotti has 60 years of experience in the woodworking trade where furniture pieces are turned into high-quality products.

Their research into artisanal wood furniture and wood processing has led them to collaborate with countless top designers. Their global expansion is nothing short of spectacular. The “T-Bone” armchair designed by Jaime Hayon is one of the brand’s newest pieces.

Founded in 1990, Dedon takes pride in innovating fibres to create stunning woven furniture. Regarded as one of the best brands in outdoor woven furniture, the artisans are based in Cebu, Philippines.
