100 Years of Beauty in 1 Minute

Cut captures the changing ideas of beauty in a fascinating short video

In a popular video circulating around online, a woman is transformed to embody different time periods with makeup and hairstyling. This one minute time lapse video, titled 100 Years of Beauty in 1 Minute, was executed by the Seattle based creative agency Cut. In a nutshell, it condenses the evolving perception of beauty over the years from 1910 2010. Below are some stills from the film. The model effectively embodies the attitudes of women at that time from the cookie-cutter 20s girl to the grungy 2000s girl. A trend that can also be observed is the rapid changes occurring from the 50s to the 80s and the less significant differences between the styles of the 2000s.

“Looks vary wildly from decade to decade, as shown by the curled bob of 1920, the bombshell hair and red lips of 1950, frizzled hairspray nest of 1980, and the natural-looking, dewy makeup of 2010. In addition to the visual traits of the time, the model also embodies the spirit of the decade through facial expressions and poses, successfully portraying quirks like the attitude and sass of the ’90s woman to the selfie-obsessed female of today.”
