Tissot Expands PRX Collection with New 25mm Models
Tissot expands the PRX collection with five new 25mm models, offering a balance of elegance and reliable performance.

Every so often, a watch changes the fortunes of a brand and so it was with the PRX and Tissot. We last had a big spread on Tissot in the Autumn issue back in September but Tissot had a few more surprises with the collection. There are five new 25mm models here and we will zoom through them all. But first…
While we think of the PRX as a special collection that everyone should know, this may not be the case. We shall spare a few paragraphs on what gives the PRX its identity here. Chances are, if this petite version strikes a chord, perhaps you have not already bought into the idea of the collection. To begin with, there is the name to contend with. Tissot says the P stands for Precision and the R, Resistance, and that is precisely how the watch made its debut in the 1970s, although not exactly under the PRX name. This is because the X stands for 100m of water-resistance and the 1978 model was rated to this depth.

In fact, what Tissot calls the PRX emerged from a design that debuted in the Seastar collection in 1952. Today, the PRX is very much on its own, quite apart from the still extant Seastar. Tissot CEO Sylvain Dolla is adamant that the watch was created on instinct, rather than as a response to market demands. Still, the PRX is the right watch for this era, and it provides a useful entry point into the world of sports elegance watches. If you are not a watch nerd, you may not have noticed that this category of watches very much dominates the commercial space in watchmaking. You might call it a trend, but it is really a new space. As Tissot reminds us though, it is also an old space.
In 1978, the watch most closely associated with the PRX as we know it already had 25mm versions <or it did shortly after – these matters are never as cut-and-dry as they should be – Ed>. The new additions, from steel to PVD carnation gold (with diamonds and sans), are thus an expression of the fullness of the PRX collection; it should be noted that all versions of the PRX are water-resistant to 100m, distinguishing the 25mm version in particular.
