The Pitti Immagine Discovery Foundation is set to reveal ‘The Ephemeral Museum of Fashion’ — an exhibition featuring selected pieces from the 19th and 20th centuries included in the archives of Florence’s Costume and Fashion Gallery. Curated by Parisian Musée Galliera director Olivier Saillard, the exhibition is the second of a three-year program promoted by the Florentine Center for Italian Fashion and Gallerie degli Uffizi. It will debut at Florence’s Palazzo Pitti during the 92nd edition of international men’s wear trade show Pitti Uomo, running from June 13 to 16.

Commenting on the exhibition, Saillard – who recently curated the “Balenciaga: Working in Black” exhibition at the Musée Bourdelle in Paris – said: “‘The Ephemeral Museum’ is an occasion, an opportunity to reinvent Palazzo Pitti’s Galleria del Costume e della Moda.”

“For the third time in twelve months,” added Eike Schmidt, director of the Gallerie degli Uffizi, “Palazzo Pitti is hosting an exhibition that investigates the mechanisms of fashion and reflects on its broader implications. It is a doubly important event – ‘The Ephemeral Museum of Fashion’ is a sterling occasion to delve into the archives to offer visitors a new perspective on the collections and the spaces of the Galleria del Costume e della Moda as it completes its process of evolution toward becoming the new Museo della Moda di Palazzo Pitti. For this, I thank the Fondazione Pitti Immagine Discovery and the Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana.”

Supported by the Italian Ministry for Economic Development and ICE, the Italian trade agency, ‘The Ephemeral Museum of Fashion’ will be open until October 22.
