Increasingly, travellers who wake up in a luxurious hotel bed can head home and order the accessories to recreate the experience for themselves at home.
This week, Swiss luxury hotel chain Swissotel announced its first online shop Swissotel At Home, selling bed linen, towers and bathrobes used in its hotels, as well as Swissotel branded items such as mugs, candles or silk scarves.
Swissotel’s shop will compete against some of the biggest names in the accommodation industry for the chance to sell its own products to guests and fans.

Lichtenstein design brand Cycle 13 launched this futuristic cocoon-like egg bed called ‘Lomme’ (abbreviation of « Light Over Matter Mind Evolution »). his naturally shaped shell combines state-of-the-art sleep enhancement technologies with a classic organic shape – the egg.
Prior to the development of the LOMME egg-bed, a 2 year study into sleeping habits and therapies for the treatment of sleeping problems has been conducted. This bed is supposed to offer an environment which enhances all the senses – forming a place to rejuvenate, relax, meditate and of course, sleep.
The Lomme has a number of enhancements that encourage lingering, including light and sound therapy for blocking out external distractions and a muscle-relaxing system. You can hook up your iPod to the sound system so you can chill in your egg to your own tunes, and there are storage compartments, too.
Perfect isn’t it? This unique egg shaped creation helped Lomme win the coveted Red Dot Award for Product Design in June. The price is supposedly at around EUR 42′000 ($53,000).
The Liechtenstein based Lomme team (Agnieszka Bernacka, Andreas Batliner and Günther Thöny) are now working on a range of equally bold concepts, which will be launched beginning of the next year.

Luxury bed maker, Vi-Spring, has introduced bamboo fibre into its top of the range bed, the Monarch. Known in the textiles industry for its soft and silk-like qualities bamboo fibre is wonderfully indulgent, but is also one of the most environmentally friendly materials available. Bamboo fibre has been woven into an exclusive fabric design for the Monarch mattress ticking, as well as blended for the mattress filling with other luxury materials, such as cashmere, lambswool and mohair.
Mike Meehan, Managing Director at Vi-Spring says: “To achieve the kind of comfort that brings life-changing sleep, we make every effort to source the finest materials to make every Vi-Spring. We believe that our best resources are those that are naturally available to us.”
Because of its special structure and natural hollowness, fabric woven from bamboo is notable for its moisture absorption and ventilation, improving the ability of the mattress to breathe. Its unique anti-allergenic and antibacterial characteristics allow for an altogether healthier night’s sleep. [...]
An eco-friendly material, bamboo does not have a negative impact on the environment. It thrives naturally, without the need for pesticides or fertilizers, and is wholly sustainable. Extracted directly from the bamboo cane the production of bamboo fibre involves no chemical processing but is simply steamed or boiled instead.
The Monarch retails at £24,275 ( $50,000) for a six-foot (182 cm) double divan set and is available exclusively at Harrods.
