We take a look at the Hermes Alligator Leather Table Clock as made for the Only Watch 2009 event.

The Only Watch auction is a collaboration between Patrizzi & Co. Auctioneers and the Monaco Yacht Show. It will be held this year in Monaco on September 24, 2009.

The charity that will benefit from the event researches treatment for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

This table clock pays homage to the universe of the saddler by its style and use of full leather – the result of carefully superimposing several layers of skillfully prepared skins.

Leatherwork is the first métier of the House – so they decided that in their gift to Only Watch they particularly wanted to demonstrate the know-how of the brand which is initially based around the métiers of leather and leatherwork.

The clock has the characteristic pure lines of the 1930s – today revisited but conserving the details which first gave it its personality – leather dial, anthracite metal indexes and hands, and manual winding key in the shape of a Hermès “H”.

Its movement is planted at the heart of the clock surrounded totally by 12 layers of leather – a bright red alligator skin covers the dial and the back – the patient work of traditional “haute couture” completely done by hand.

The stitching all around the dial is in natural white linen thread – a sign of true leather craftsmanship.

The layers of leather are terminated by a layer in alligator skin, finished in the colors of Hermès, and with bevelled indexes in black nickel to give it even more character and reflect the light.

It measures 175mm high by 150mm wide and is 37mm thick. On the one index is discreetly engraved “Only Watch”.

It will be delivered in a Hermès red lacquered traveling case which carries a small plaque: “Only Watch 2009”.

We’ll feature more from the Only Watch 2009 auction in the coming days.
