In February 2020, Italian luxury fashion house, Prada made industry-breaking news with the announcement that Miuccia Prada would share “creative input and decision making” with Raf Simons. Combining traditional house codes with an edgy touch and a new take on the house’s signature logo, the first co-branded collection debuted with a lengthy interview, answering questions contributed by fashion enthusiasts and budding designers alike.

Through incorporating signature Prada ’70s geometric prints, technical suiting, and duchesse satin, both brands’ much awaited Spring/Summer 2021 collection showcased an ideal balance of comfort, quality, and unmistakable identity. Contributing Swiss cheese cutouts and the very same coat-grasp we saw at his final Jil Sander show from 2012, Raf Simons’ distinct design sensibility shone effortlessly through the collection’s most notable look – an all-black top printed with an oversized Prada logo in white, paired with tailored trousers and a coat in the same hue, finished by an elongated white kitten heel, which set the tone for the rest of the footwear in the collection.

Set in a pastel yellow room, backed by screens that displayed each model’s name as they strut the runway, the Prada x Raf Simons Spring/Summer 2021 collection represents an immaculate merger of heritage with new and modern style cues, including a re-imagined version of Prada’s iconic triangle logo in oversized patches and printed iterations.
