Saint Laurent: Marrakech in Motion

These purveyors of the past tell us why old is new again.

Saint Laurent’s affections for Morocco were well documented. The designer first visited the country in the ’60s, before purchasing a house in Marrakech and making it his holiday location of choice. Now, for Spring/Summer 2018, Anthony Vaccarello revisits the house’s longstanding love.

A Saint Laurent line-up would not be complete without the bomber (top left), in multiple iterations. One of the season’s most striking styles involves a spray paint effect, with a silky finish.

The trophy piece (top right) amongst the menswear looks that swaggered down Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2018 runway show: this black velvet varsity jacket with hand-embroidered flowers.

This season’s City Backpacks are made of Toile Ikat and Toile Ikat Smarcande, which are fabrics that enhance Saint Laurent’s Marrakech mood.

The signature City Backpack is now available in seasonal iterations, which feature the multi-coloured Saint Laurent Éclair, as well as “Saint Laurent” and “Heaven” embroideries.

Meet the Noe Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Tote in white linen canvas. The roomy style is adorned with three engraved snap buttons for closure and a zippered interior pocket.

Surely the season’s statement style, the Large Flat Saharienne Bag in black leather is rendered in black leather and suede, replete with swishing fringe.

For the new season, the SL/06 sneaker (an iconic men’s shoe of the house featuring an embroidered signature) gets new hues that were inspired by the colour palette of Morroco.

The season’s new footwear style, Jump, is statement and timeless all it once. The white leather running sneaker comes with a silver Saint Laurent logo and matching lacing details.

The Rive Gauche Studded Brogues are decorated with hammered studs and pack a surprise, or two: their soles are engraved with “Betty” on the right, and “Loulou” on the left.

When Ikat motifs look grown-up and polished – thanks to a subtle strip in black and white, juxtaposed with high shine leather and a sleek Derby shape.
