When Canadian musician Drake crooned the lines “I need a one dance, got a Hennessy in my hands” in the song “One Dance” in 2016, a whole new generation of party-goers was introduced to the world’s largest cognac producer.

Hennessy X Felipe Pantone “Very Special” Limited Edition Series

Now, Hennessy is hoping to capture the hearts and minds of a new audience again, this time by partnering with Argentinean-Spanish contemporary artist Felipe Pantone, on the design of its latest Hennessy Very Special Limited Edition series.

Below, watch how Hennessy and Pantone put the final product together:

Pantone is known for using bold colours, graphics, and 3D illusions in his work. The Very Special bottle features all those elements, and the final product, which the artist has christened W-3 Dimensional Three Stars, resembles that of a 1980s television “no signal” screensaver on steroids.

The artist says he wanted to create a bottle that both honoured Hennessy’s past, while looking forward to the future, describing it as a “remixing” of “the present”.

Contemporary artist Felipe Pantone merged Hennessy’s colourful past with his own signature aesthetic, and the result is an apt metaphor of the past and present

For this collaboration, Pantone took a trip to Hennessy’s headquarters in Cognac, France, and dived deep into its archives to glean inspiration from old labels and advertisements, antique bottles and packaging, and even the three-star motif once used by Maurice Hennessy.

On Hennessy’s part, the partnership is its ninth with a visual artist, re-emphasising the brand’s longstanding support of the art scene.
