Fernando Alonso was able to sample the “Sunreef Eco” lifestyle as the Spanish Formula 1 star enjoyed a Sunreef 80 Eco sailing catamaran during his summer holiday in Mykonos. The world premiere of the Sunreef 80 Eco was held at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival in September.

Alonso, who won the Formula 1 World Championship in 2005 and 2006, commissioned an electric 60 Sunreef Power Eco last year. Under construction in Gdansk, Poland, the custom motor yacht will be equipped with electric engines and the shipyard’s patented photovoltaic system.

“Sunreef Yachts was an easy choice for me,” said Alonso, who has won 32 Grands Prix during his extensive racing career. “They combine luxury and sustainability like no other shipyard. When I visited their facility in Poland, I saw first-hand how all the details are taken care of. This is what luxury eco yachting should be about.”

While waiting for delivery, with his boat expected in 2023, he was able to enjoy a slice of sustainable yachting in Greece, as he tried out a Sunreef Eco sailing catamaran boasting the same silent performance and operation as his upcoming motor yacht.

“My life goes so fast. I travel a lot around the world,” said Alonso, who will drive for Aston Martin in the 2023 season. “Once on the track, it’s again all about speed. When I enjoy my time off, I want the exact opposite. I want to travel in total silence, with no fumes, no vibrations.”

In late September, Hong Seh Marine, Sunreef’s dealer in Singapore, hosted Alonso for a special evening as the Spaniard visited the city to compete in F1’s iconic race.
