“To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one’s ability, for I feel that life is measured in achievement, not years alone” – Bruce McLaren, from his cockpit during a race in 1964.

To mark the opening of Dubai International Motor Show 2017, running from Nov 14 to 18, British supercar company, McLaren, is putting its latest 720S coupé on display.

While some people are inspired by stories from their travels, some are spurred by the beauty and landscapes of mother nature, some dive the deep ocean, some go to the extent of scaling the high mountains in the world, some traverse from cities to historical sites in search of warrior of the light, some are stimulated by the tastes, scents and sights of gourmet meals, McLaren is inspired by the meaning and beauty of words.

The Arabic words inscribed in gold as seen on the supercar’s spoiler resemble Dubai’s skyline.

Words that were once shared by the late New Zealand-born racing driver, Bruce McLaren who laid the foundation for the F1 racing team, had not faded with the passage of time.

Illustrated in gold detailing across the spoiler, a condense version of the quote written in Arabic script reads “Life is measured in achievement, not in years alone” was the inspiration breathed into the latest creation of The McLaren 720S coupe.

The 720S coupe is painted in Zenith Black and completed with special satin finish, offset by the gold-coloured alloy wheels, incorporated with the genuine 24-carat gold engine heatshield that has a gold-lined engine bay for optimum cooling.

Based on the previous McLaren F1 hypercar model, the standard 4-litre, twin-turbo V8 powerplant and drivetrain have been retained. The interior has touches of gold along with a dashboard-mounted plaque that says the car a “1 of 1 MSO commission”, while the car’s rear wing took 30 hours of craftsmanship to complete.

“The UAE and the region are very important to McLaren, not only in terms of our client base, but also because of the support from our shareholders. This car pays tribute to that.” – Andreas Bareis, McLaren Automotive’s MD for the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

After which, the luxury supercar McLaren will be handed over to its expectant client.
