Bvlgari Serpenti Aeterna Reinvented With Bold Minimalist Design

The Bvlgari Serpenti Aeterna sheds its skin for a radical minimalist reinvention, proving that less is definitely more

Bvlgari made an impressive debut at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2025, capturing attention with the record-breaking Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon – the world’s thinnest tourbillon – and the unveiling of the Serpenti Aeterna, an audacious reinterpretation of the Italian house’s most emblematic motif.

Bvlgari

Devoid of eyes and scales, it’s described as the most elemental evolution of the Serpenti to date – a bold, avant-garde distillation of the serpentine design codes Bvlgari has been shaping since 1948. Rendered not as jewellery nor simply a timepiece, but as sculpture, it transcends form and function to become wearable art that is sensuous, architectural, and unmistakably Bvlgari.

The snake has long been a totem of transformation and rebirth, and few brands have embraced its symbolism with the same creative fervour as Bvlgari. Over the past seven decades, the Serpenti has assumed countless guises – from the sleek, gas pipe-inspired Tubogas bracelets of the 1950s to astounding high jewellery interpretations and more recently, the technically ambitious Serpenti Misteriosi, powered by the smallest mechanical movement in the luxury watch industry, the BVL 100 Piccolissimo.

Yet the Serpenti Aeterna’s deceptive simplicity belies extraordinary technical complexity. Its ergonomically contoured bracelet – a product of more than two years’ development – ensures a flawless and secure fit around the wrist. An ingenious hidden clasp mechanism allows the bangle to open and close seamlessly, preserving the integrity of its sculptural silhouette. It’s this obsession with tactility and comfort – how the piece feels as much as how it looks – that underscores Bvlgari’s design sensibility.

The Serpenti Aeterna is offered in two striking incarnations. The first, in rose gold, features green hands set against a curved case partially set with diamonds and a dial paved with brilliant-cut diamonds. For those drawn to pure opulence, the high jewellery edition in fully diamond pavé-set white gold intensifies the effect with oversized diamonds that are set higher than the case to create a three-dimensional effect. This accentuates the piece’s volumes while enhancing the mesmerising rows of dazzling diamonds that extend from the dial along the serpent’s spine to the tip of its tail. A snow-set pavé dial, emerald-set crown, and green hands complete the glittering composition.

In a poetic nod to heritage, the hallmark hexagonal scales that have defined previous Serpenti designs are etched in the inner contour of the bangle. Visible only to the wearer, this subtle detail transforms the timepiece into a personal talisman. Both versions house a Swiss quartz movement that powers the hours and minutes, ensuring that nothing distracts from the purity of the form.

The Serpenti Aeterna is a conceptual rebirth. Where earlier Serpenti designs seduced with storytelling, embellishment and vivid colour, this latest creation captivates through restraint, abstraction, and symbolism. It’s channels Bvlgari’s Roman roots through an architectural lens, celebrating bold minimalism over ornate excess.
