Ashok Jain Gallery, based in New York, is committed to creating an enduring dialogue between the artist and the viewer. Artists see the world through special lenses and that point of view is shared with the public through imagery, colour, and perspective. Art is an essential part of the human experience; it brings us places that are otherwise unseen, makes us feel new emotions, makes us reflect, and encourages new thoughts and ideas. In line with this, Ashok Jain Gallery will be bringing four artists to their booth at Art Stage Singapore 2017 whose works lend to this experience: Annette Mewes-Thoms, Elling Reitan, Nicol Rodriguez and Za Woo.

Nicol Rodriguez

Nicol Rodriguez

Annette Mewes-Thoms is a German artist who is fascinated with water. She employs several techniques to create her artworks; with pencil, paintbrush or camera she crosses lines in several layers. The works, especially her drawings and paintings, grow from layer to layer. Every picture’s process is an exciting game to her; like an adventure, where the exit is not foreseeable.

Elling Reitan

Elling Reitan

Elling Reitan is one of Norway’s most renowned and popular contemporary multi-artists. His oeuvre includes paintings, watercolours, coal drawings, lithographs, colour etchings, glassware and more. Often nicknamed ‘the artist with the beautiful colours’, his works involve a collage of bold colours, motifs and images culminating into one compelling composition.

Nicol Rodriguez is a Dutch-French artist with Spanish roots. As child and adolescent, she grew up mostly in Paris and has lived in diverse countries before coming to The Netherlands. She paints on mixed media and her works are as philosophical as they are a sight of abstract beauty.

Za Woo (main picture) is a self-taught artist who graduated from Seoul National University’s Department of Dentistry. He has also studied the Zen teachings and channels that into his artworks, in which he says that “his art world is entirely derived from the philosophical research in ‘Ying’ and ‘Yang’, the negative and positive life forces of cosmos”.
