Paris Luxury Stores to Open Sunday

As a visitor to Paris, Sundays have always been an excellent time to take in the scenery because the stores are closed – well, not anymore because the city’s top luxury stores will be throwing open their doors from this weekend onwards.

Tourists flocking to the French capital will now be able shop at luxury shops that line the Champs Elysees and the Place Vendome on Sundays as a key government reform comes into effect.

An agreement between luxury shops and employee unions on Sunday hours has come into force, said Sylvie Zawadzki, who heads up tax and social issues at the French Fashion Federation.

The deal allows shops to take advantage of a reform pushed through by Economy Minister Emmanuel Macron last year allowing for shops to open on Sundays in newly created international tourist zones in Paris.

Sunday openings for shops in France is severely restricted.

“It is an agreement that provides companies the possibility to open (on Sundays) but it is a decision they take based on their commercial strategy,” said Zawadzki.

The flagship shops of luxury brands such as Chanel, Christian Dior and Louis Vuitton are covered by the deal.

Zawadzki declined to say how many companies are concerned, but according to the business daily Les Echos some 30 brands and nearly 100 shops could now open.

Other international tourist zones cover the central part of Paris, including the area where many of the city’s top department stores are located, including Galeries Lafayette. So far only one, BHV, has reached a deal with its employees.

There’s good news for American fans of Vivienne Westwood: the house has announced the opening of its first flagship boutique in New York.

The new location, set to open in the fall, will offer the brand’s ready-to-wear lines Gold Label, Red Label, Anglomania and MAN, as well as all accessory lines, alongside a bridal and Gold Label Capsule collection eveningwear salon dedicated to showcasing and fitting demi-couture gowns.

The space will stock a special selection of original Worlds End collection pieces, otherwise only available from Westwood’s London boutique.

Spanning six stories of a French Beaux-Arts building, Vivienne Westwood New York will be the brand’s largest retail location to date. Located in the heart of Manhattan on East 55th Street, the pre-war townhouse will feature a new design concept combining modern and classic elements with Vivienne Westwood’s unique British style. New York will mark Westwood’s third retail location in the US, following Los Angeles and Honolulu.

Long considered a symbol of the British avant-garde, Vivienne Westwood is one of the last independent global fashion companies in the world.

Cult British label Paul Smith has opened its first European “Paul Smith Junior” store for mini fashionistas in Paris.

The store, located adjacent to the brand’s existing menswear retail space on the Boulevard de Raspail in the French capital, is the first Junior store to open outside of Japan. It features quirky design details such as an electric Hornby train chugging its way around the display window.


At 19 square meters, the shop is as mini as the clients it caters for but big enough to stock pieces from the brand’s lines Paul Smith Baby, Junior and PSJR, all recognizable due to the label’s signature vibrant colored stripes and prints echoing the style of the adult collections.

The retail space itself is reminiscent of the brand’s standard shops, with wooden paneling and elaborate coving contrasting with the contemporary oak furnishings and suspended brushed brass clothing racks.

Modern art images decorate the walls, while the Nottinghamshire designer has even added a personal touch by incorporating some of his own photographs into the décor.

Victoria Beckham plans to open store in Hong Kong

Victoria Beckham has said that she will open her next fashion boutique in Hong Kong, after visiting the city for a star-studded AIDS benefit gala.

The British designer told the South China Morning Post that she was scouting locations — she already has one store in London.

“I would love my second worldwide store to be in Hong Kong, so I’m here also looking at space and speaking to all my retail partners,” she told the newspaper’s fashion editor Jing Zhang in an interview.

Beckham was in Hong Kong over the weekend for the amfAR AIDS research fundraiser where she was joined on the red carpet by film star Gwyneth Paltrow and models Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss.

Her trip also coincided with Art Basel, Asia’s largest art fair which draws celebrities to the city each year.

The mother-of-four said she would like to bring her family to Hong Kong — although she said they had no plans to move here.

“It just makes sense for this to be my next ‘home’, and by that I don’t mean I’m going to move here,” she said.

“But I do want to spend a lot of time here, there’s such an energy and it’s such an exciting place to be, I want to bring the kids here.”

Beckham had revealed that she was looking to Asia for her next store during her New York runway show in February, saying that she would be flying to Hong Kong and Beijing in the coming weeks.

“I love the women there. They really understand fashion and style; they’re beautiful. So why not Asia?” she told AFP.

Hong Kong is crammed with luxury malls and is a magnet for high-end shoppers from the city and abroad.

With the world’s fashion press in the Italian city for the Spring/Summer 2015 shows,  has chosen this week to open a new boutique in the recently restored Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

The restoration of the famous Galleria, which survived the city’s bombing during the Second World War, was supervised by the city’s Sovrintendenza alle Belle Arti (Department for the Fine Arts), with delicate work undertaken to preserve and protect the friezes and other decorations.

The Versace boutique was designed by Donatella Versace and architect Jamie Fobert, with the space designed to balance the distinctive Versace aesthetic with the delicate late 19th century features of the Galleria.

“It has been an honour to preserve and promote the importance of Italian culture giving back to Milan one of its treasures,” says Donatella Versace, “the importance of Milan to Versace is fundamental: it was in this city that the Maison was born in 1978. It means the opening of our boutique in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is hugely important to us.”

In celebration of the opening, Donatella Versace and her team have designed a new accessories collection in honor of the store.

The Versace Ornamental Collection features a heat-impressed print motif which riffs on the friezes and columns in the Galleria.

Just days after the launch of his debut men’s and women’s fragrances, Kaiser Karl is at it again. The designer opened the first UK store for his namesake fashion and accessories brand in London, a 2,700-square-foot (250 square meters) space on Regent Street in the city’s West End.

It’s the 17th store in the Lagerfeld retail empire, which started with the Fall 2012 opening of his store in Saint Germain on the Rive Gauche in Paris.

As you would expect there’s a strictly monochrome colour scheme, enhanced by glossy surfaces, mirrors, faux fur chairs and graffiti-style artwork designed especially for the store by I Love Dust.

The Chanel and Fendi designer’s self-named fashion and accessories label will be opening up in the UK capital in March next year.

The Karl Lagerfeld concept store is set to open at 145-147 on London’s famed Regent Street, the West End shopping mecca which welcomes over 70 million visitors a year.

The store will stock all the brand’s men’s and women’s ready-to-wear and accessories collections, from handbags, leather goods, watches, eyewear and scarves to footwear.

The 250 sq. meter location is the biggest European Karl Lagerfeld store to date and will feature standard glossy black decor as well as the brand’s focus on a connected digital shopping experience.

The Japanese luxury brand has unveiled a menswear counterpart to its Pleats Please line called Homme Plissé as well as a new Reality Lab Tokyo concept store.

The Homme Plissé line will feature 10 different styles of pleated pieces, from t-shirts and cardigans to pants. Everything comes in four key colors: light gray, dark gray, blue and black (with a couple of extra accent color options), and the collection is rounded out with some (pleatless) coats and jackets. The pieces range from 12,000 yen ($122) for t-shirts up to 50,000 yen ($507) for outerwear.

The Reality Lab concept store, which opened November 11 in Tokyo’s Aoyama district, presents creations by the Reality Lab research team led by Issey Miyake, as well as numerous items from the company’s ranges including the new menswear, the forward-thinking 132 5 line (which includes computer generated prints and recycled plastic pieces), watches and Bao Bao Issey Miyake bags.

Gucci is the first luxury brand in Italy to join the Google Business Photos, which allows customers to explore a store space from the comfort of their own home.

Google Maps users can now travel from the street into and through the menswear boutique in the Brera area of Milan. The store, which opened in June, is the first-ever Gucci flagship dedicated to men.

The Google Business Photos project essentially works like an indoor version of the Californian tech giant’s Street View feature, which allows you to navigate through the environment via immersive street level photography, stitched together into a seamless digital environment.

Luxury brand Fendi has unveiled its first kids’ store in Kuwait City. The Fendi Kids Store, located in the Avenues Shopping Mall, is “an adorable and cosy space carrying collections from the newborn to kids.”

Fendi opened its first freestanding children’s store in Hong Kong in September 2011, and the concept has exploded around the world with boutiques in Rome, Prague, Jeddah, Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong and Doha having opened up. There are additional locations within the Harrods department store in London, at Paris’s Galeries Lafayette, and at Milan’s La Rinascente.

On, July 3, 2013, Louis Vuitton opened the Louis Vuitton Cup Pop-up store in San Francisco, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the partnership between Louis Vuitton and America’s Cup.

Located in the America’s Cup Village at the end of Pier 27/29, the store provides visitors with views of the sailing finish line on San Francisco Bay, while offering the most extensive assortment and exclusive product from the Louis Vuitton Cup Collection.

Giambattista Valli is opening a Parisian store entirely given over to his high-end shoes and accessories.

Situated opposite the main store (30 rue Boissy d’Anglas) the space is dedicated to the most luxurious and exclusive shoes, bags and jewelry from his collections, and is set to open in September.

Limited edition items have been created especially for the store, including a version of the recently launched ‘Valli’ bag, the ‘pretty ugly’ Birkenstock-inspired sandals in crocodile, and a special jewelry collection designed by longstanding creative collaborator Luigi Scialanga, who has produced all of Valli’s fine jewelry since the house was first launched in 2005.

Valli debuted his first haute couture collection in July 2011 and has become a major name on the schedule, regularly dressing fashionistas and celebrities like Diane Kruger for the red carpet.

Luxury Swiss watchmaker Blancpain – owned by Swatch Group – has opened its largest boutique in the world, in the Xintiandi district of Shanghai, China. The store is the brand’s eighth in China.

Xintiandi is one of Shanghai’s most popular districts, a place where people love to stroll along the open streets lined with boutiques as well as cafés and restaurants with terraces.

Chanel has unveiled a new store on Rue St Honoré in the French capital dedicated to perfumes and cosmetics. Situated at number 382 of the Rue Saint Honoré in Paris, the store is located around the corner from Chanel’s original Paris store on Rue Cambon which is currently undergoing rennovations.

Chanel has recently announced it would be expanding its historic store (originally a hat store financed by Gabrielle Chanel’s lover Boy Capel, and called ‘Chanel Modes’) which is set to be finished in 2016.

According to the brand, the new Rue Saint Honoré store will stock makeup collections, exclusive colors and advance previews as well as offer a specialized perfume service.

Luxury label Berluti, which has recently expanded beyond shoes and accessories into ready-to-wear, has reopened the London flagship store.

Set over three floors, Berluti has unveiled a decadent new London home for its menswear, accessories and shoe collections.

“We wanted to create a men’s club where the atmosphere and feeling belongs to a private place where men can feel at home,” creative director Alessandro Sartori told WWD. “We chose London because the idea was to open the first maison where the history of the brand was.”

Designed by Gwenaël Nicolas, the ‘Maison’ boutique includes the brand’s original shoestore, which had been present on Conduit Street for 15 years, but which has now been enlarged to hold the latest ready-to-wear offer.

Nicolas picked typically luxurious finishes, and, in a nod to the brand’s 118-year leather-working heritage, used plenty of the stuff, including a leather-walled bespoke space for appointments with the French and Italian tailors or the ‘bottier’.

Run by Antoine Arnault and part of the LVMH luxury group, Berluti expanded into menswear last year, with luxury collections designed by Sartori, formerly of Italian label Zegna.

Italian luxury label Fendi is unveiling its first boutique in Brazil in the city of São Paulo.

Open from June 5, and located in the city’s Citade Jardim Mall, Fendi’s first standalone boutique in Brazil is a 3,800-square-foot space in the booming commercial capital.

Alongside the Fendi men’s and women’s ready-to-wear and accessories, the store will stock limited edition Brazilian items inspired by the country’s colorful flag including the brand’s famous ‘Baguette’ bag and a Brazil-themed scarf.

Despite the warm Brazilian climate, the store will also carry around 20 furs: “there’s a growing appreciation for luxury there,” Fendi’s CEO Pietro Beccari told WWD.

Brazilian customers “travel a lot and they represent a very big potential for us. They buy all categories: our bags, ready-to-wear and furs. It’s about a Fendi silhouette,” he added.

This week the brand hosted 200 guests for a star-studded dinner at the Museum of Modern Art which honored Beccari and designer Silvia Venturini Fendi. On the guestlist were some of Brazil’s biggest fashion names including supermodels Ana Beatriz Barros and Izabel Goulart.

Maison Rabih Kayrouz opens in Saint-Tropez

As summer draws near, Maison Rabih Kayrouz has announced that it is opening its first boutique in Saint-Tropez. This new establishment featuring pieces by the Lebanese designer will be a stone’s throw away from the famous Place des Lices on rue Gambetta.

It was entirely designed by the architect and scenographer Christophe Martin. Customers will discover a dressing room, a mini hall of mirrors and collections of light flowing dresses and cotton pieces.

As part of the launch, Maison Rabih Kayrouz has designed a limited edition collection of summer essentials, from printed sarongs and purses to colorful pashminas.
