$80,000 Arowana Aquarium Fish

Yesterday, some of you, reading our post on NYC aquariums, were probably wondering how come a simple fish can be as expensive as a luxury car. Here is the answer !

The fish that was getting all the attention at Aquarama 2007, and is considered by some to be the most expensive aquarium fish in the world, is a 15" platinum arowana .This particular aquatic vertebrate is owned by Aro Dynasty, a Dragon fish breeder based out of Singapore.

Its white coloration is an exceedingly rare mutation of the rather common arowana. Arowanas are not usually so pricey, but this platinum-colored mutation is unique in its own way. This fish is of the species Osteoglossum that are mostly found in South America.

The fish measures around 40cm/15" in length, and looks stunning. It is, however, not entirely perfect because It does have one minor flaw. The fish’s right eye is starting to look downwards. This is a common problem with arowanas and in fact many keepers are paying for cosmetic surgery for their prized arowanas.

It was recently offered for sale to prospective buyers by a UK arowana importer for more than £200,000 ($300,000). However, Aro Dynasty told Practical Fishkeeping Online that the fish is now "off the market." It confirmed that it turned down S$80,000 for the fish a few years ago.

Luxury aquarium : hand-pick your exotic fish and take it home

NYC-based Okeanos Aquascaping, is an international custom aquarium and pond company specializing in the integration of cutting edge designs, hand-picked exotic fish, coral and other livestock, brilliant colors, and mesmerizing effects.

Sure, you could go to a beach or an aquarium anytime to see exotic aquatic life. But you guys deserve the finest luxuries in life, right ? So why not take a trip or build a customized aquarium in your home?

Okeanos is now offering five-star experiential vacations where customers can travel with Okeanos' staff around the world to see exotic fish, coral and other livestock in its natural habitats.
The client will have the opportunity to pick out the fish, coral and livestock that he/she wishes, and Okeanos will replicate the environment in the customer's location of choice.

That sounds very “luxury” though… but a bit selfish too (bad joke…time to sleep). Although fish must not really suffer in such big aquariums, I just hope I’m not actually doing publicity for a company which brings back some endangered species home! And unfortunately at $100,000 each, I guess we cannot find this kind of fish everywhere…

Though, if customers get bored with their luxury fish, they can still turn them into the world’s most expensive sushis, we will be glad to feature them once again on Luxuo ^_^

Yu by Mane : a $5,000 Perfume

Mane has launched Yu which means rain in Chinese, one of the most expensive fragrances available on the market today at $5000. It was composed by nose Cecile Krakower of Mane.

New York Times perfume critic, Chandler Burr said “It’s actually very interesting, aesthetically gorgeous. You can smell the money in it. It’s almost a fresh quality, like using a very good toothpaste.” But he thinks that the perfume is not really worth it: “$5,000 is marketing, just increases the marketing campaign.”

Only 500 bottles of the scent were produced and are currently available at the high-end department store Bergdorf Goodman.

It will also be for sale at Lane Crawford in Hong Kong this summer and in select Nordstrom stores in the fall.

Most Expensive Speeches

Bill Zanker, founder and president of the Learning Annex. Zanker hired Donald Trump in 2005 to speak at three real estate investing seminars for $1 million per speech.

Those went so well that the company proceeded to hire him for another 17 seminars in 2006-07 for $1.5 million each. Zanker claims that he's turned a profit on every event, where admission prices top out around $500”
"He's worth every penny,'' Zanker says. "I've been doing this for 30 years. There is no better business speaker than Donald Trump. He attracts the biggest crowds in the world."

Former president Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) was paid $2 million by media company Fujisankei Communications for two speeches and a handful of press interviews during a tour of Japan. Adjusting for inflation reveals that he was paid over $1.7 million per speech in today’s currency so we may consider these the most expensive speeches ever made.

Another former president, Bill Clinton generated $10.2 million in speaking fees in 2006 (the most recent year for which public records are available); he remains one of most popular top-tier speakers around !

Learning Annex even offered Paris Hilton a million dollars last year to speak at a Learning Annex seminar on building your own brand. She turned him down. "I thought she was a brilliant brander, but I think I was a little ahead of her." Bill Zanker said…

$20 Million Baby Photos

Oscar winner Angelina Jolie had the twins by caesarean section on Saturday evening at the Lenval hospital on the glamorous Promenade des Anglais waterfront drive in Nice.

Miss Jolie arrived at the Lenval hospital in late June, provoking a media circus with photographers desperate for a picture of the mother-to-be. Though, the bidding war has already begun for the first photos of Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, the “world’s most famous children.”

French newspapers have reported that an American magazine has already offered $20m for the first and exclusive images of the new babies - with all the money going to a worthy cause.

"I've never known a set of pictures to be worth this amount of money," said Darryn Lyons, owner of Big Pictures, a celebrity photo agency in London. The only other photos that "would possibly come that close is Britney Spears giving birth to an alien", he said.

Angelina Jolie is expected to stay and rest at the exclusive Lenval hospital in Nice for the next few days and is already enjoying specially couriered-in food for her stay. The actress is then expected to depart as she arrived - in a helicopter taking off from the roof of the building, most likely in the dead of night to avoid being photographed.

The arrival of the twins brings the couple's family to six. They are already parents to three adopted children: Cambodian boy Maddox, six, Vietnamese boy Pax Thien, four, and Ethiopian girl Zahara, three.
Their natural daughter Shiloh was born in Namibia in 2006. After her birth, the couple auctioned off the photo shoot to People magazine in the US and Hello! in Britain for $10m with an undisclosed charity benefiting.

The mayor, Christian Estrosi, seized the opportunity to promote his city by arriving at the hospital to sign the birth certificates wearing a smart suit and full make-up for the TV cameras.

Most Expensive Record

Question : What is the most expensive record in the world?

Answer : An early disc created by three of the original Beatles has become England's most expensive record of all time and has an estimated value of £100,000 ($200,000).

Recorded in 1958 by the band Quarry Men, (Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, Colin Hanton and John Duff Lowe), the first pressing of their version of “That'll Be The Day” would be a jewel in any collection.

Most members of the band attended Quarry Banks grammar school, from which they derived the name. The band lasted until 1958, when Lowe and Hanton left the group.

After that, the group went through several names before settling on The Beatles.
Sir Paul McCartney owns the first pressing. Record Collector, a magazine, arrived at the £100,000 figure through information from experts, collectors and dealers.

The expensive single also contains an original B-side by McCartney and Harrison, “In Spite of All the Danger.”

The most expensive LCD TV in the world

Here is an item that was displayed for the first time at Berlin's International Consumer Electronics Fair in 2006.

Italian maker Keymat Industries produced this most expensive LCD panel in the world. It is not the technology behind it that makes it uber-expensive, but the diamonds around it.

Studded with four grams of diamonds (the 40 inch model has 160 real diamonds embedded around the screen), and plated with white gold, the YALOS Diamond LCD is available in 26, 32, 37, 40 and 46 inch sizes. The 40 inch model costs $150,000.

With so much diamonds around the screen, I’m wondering how I could keep my focus on any TV program ! (Luckily, I can’t afford it).
