the 60.5-megapixel P 65+ digital back and camera system
For the past few years the highest sensor resolution available was 39 Megapixels, and for many this was regarded as more than enough (your camera phones have usually a 5 megapixel resolution, at most, and anyway an 8 megapixel digicams is far enough to take great pics)
But Phase One has just announced the 60.5-megapixel P 65+ digital back and camera system. That means images with 8,984 x 6,732 pixels resolution which equals 180MB!
Using Sensor+ CCD technology, the cam can give professional photographers higher sensitivity and expanded dynamic range (12.5 f-stops when most cameras go up to 8) as well as 20 percent more live capture area (as compared with 39 megapixel or 50 megapixel 48mm-by-36mm chips currently available or announced) available with coverage of 53.9mm by 40.4mm, enabling full viewfinder coverage and no need for lens magnification.
It will cost a lot : the P 65+ digital back will start at $39,900 and the P 65+ camera system will start at $41,990 - they both will be available by the end of the year

The Alice Chess Set pieces magically turn transparent
Inspired by the Lewis Carroll's novel ‘Alice through the Looking Glass,' designer Yasmin Sethi developed a chess set that features pieces that "magically turn transparent" when they touch the board.
(In ‘Alice through the Looking Glass’ by Lewis Carroll, Alice falls through a mirror and on the other side of the mirror, she becomes a piece in a game of chess.)
The pieces of this chess set are each contained in a cylinder that turns opaque when they're removed from the board hiding the identity of the piece. However, when you put them back down in one of the squares, the pieces turn transparent again and reveal their true identity.
The effect works thanks to a board made out of a glass material with embedded LEDs (LightPoints) and chess pieces made from clear glass with the negative shape of a traditional, delicate Staunton chess piece enclosed within it. Placing the chess piece on the board completes a circuit that illuminates the negative shapes, making them visible. (source : gizmodo)
The idea is to show that chess pieces have no value unless they're in play. This product was designed in response to a brief set by Schott UK Ltd. for Final year students of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.

The Chanel Fly-fishing Rod
For many years now Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel have been producing some of the world's most preposterous and overpriced sporting goods.
First there was the Chanel snowboard with trompe l'oeil "quilting"; then $2,5000 Chanel skis. More recently the fashion house has produced a Chanel's $12,000 bike, a pink Chanel tennis racket complete with tennis balls and a Chanel boomerang.
And now, here is the luxurious fly-fishing rod from the latest Chanel sports collection, priced at just under $20,000. It seems to be a Karl Lagerfeld’s personal tribute to Coco Chanel and her love of the relaxing sport !
For a mere £9,170 the ponciest angler on the planet can kit himself out with a Chanel rod and a set of meticulously tied, monochrome Chanel flies, complete with the famous "double C" logo on the gossamer wings, presented in a rather fetching, quilted black leather box.

One big box and five "incredibly" small speakers - the system has three 1080p HDMI inputs with repeater functionality and support for eight channels of uncompressed audio. It’s hard to believe, but the satellite speakers are scarcely as big as a strawberry.
The 5.1 channel system, with 450 watts of power, includes a subwoofer with integrated 32-bit S-Master digital amplifier, Sony's S-AIR technology and the ability to add optional wireless rear surround speakers and multi-room wireless speakers.
The system also features Digital Media Port, Digital Cinema Auto Calibration, BRAVIA Sync, Dialogue Audio Enhancer and Portable Audio Enhancer - all Sony in-house tech that promises amazing performance.
The system claims to sacrifice nothing in the way of sound and everything in the way of cumbersome space-gobbling size.

Montblanc Skeleton 333
The Montblanc Skeleton 333 is a tribute, true to the last detail, to this first-ever skeletonised fountain pen made by Montblanc almost 10 years ago. To celebrate the 75th birthday of the “Meisterstück”, or “Masterpiece”, in 1999, Montblanc’s master craftsmen created the first fountain pen in history to use this delicate technique: the Montblanc Meisterstück 149, which caused a sensation all around the world.
The highly sophisticated art of skeletonising, a precise craft by which parts of the barrel of a writing instrument are exposed, transforms it into a transparent work of art.
The transparent, platinum-plated barrel artistically reveals the delicate workings of this much sought-after collectors’ item down to the last detail.
The cap is decorated by a Montblanc star in shimmering mother-of-pearl, and the rhodium-plated 18-karat gold nib captures the eye with its delicate hand engravings.
