The world's most expensive champagne glasses

The Daily (Australia) has reported that an Australian jeweler recently unveiled what he says are the world's most expensive champagne glasses, valued at $400,000 and blinged out with 1700 white and pink diamonds.

Designer John Calleija said five jewellers spent more than three months finishing the two glasses, which were chiselled from huit kilogram blocks of crystal.
Each glass stands 15cm tall, weighs 250g, and together encrusted with 15 carats of white diamonds and six carats of rare argyle pink diamonds.
They are finished with platinum 18 carat white and rose gold.

Mr Calleija said he was experimenting with his designs when he came up with the idea, but it just as easily could have been a pair of diamond-encrusted chopsticks. "I just wanted to get into a different area of objects, like luxury goods. I drew a whole series of diamond-encrusted letter openers, salt and pepper shakers, scissors, everything... But I drew the glasses and there was just something about them."

The buyer, an anonymous Melbourne businessman, vowed to put the glasses to good use, promising to bust them out for special occasions and to turn them into cherished family heirlooms.

The glasses, which will head to London for the official opening of Mr Calleija's second store, were the pride and joy of his team : "Tears were coming from their eyes because they know how much this has been a labour of love".

Gresso Unveils White Diamonds Collection

Gresso, the Russian luxury phone manufacturer, will soon release two highly expensive handsets, included in the new "Avantgarde White Diamonds" collection.
After the Sol Steel and Luna Steel devices were unveiled, the new collection includes two new mobiles called Gresso White Diamonds and Gresso Royal White Diamonds.

In terms of design, the new phones are not different from the other handsets that Gresso rolled-out until now - their hand-assembled body panels are made out of 200-year old African blackwood, the keyboards have a base plate made of titanium, their stainless steel battery cover has a magnetic lock plus leather and gold decoration.

The displays of the two new Gresso handsets are covered by 42K sapphire crystal glass, their keys are made out of 18K gold and as a signature feature - all the numbers on the keypad are laser-cut in Roman style.

But what makes the new devices different is their keypad, for which the manufacturer used diamonds :

Gresso White Diamonds is the "cheap" device from the two new ones, coming
for 9,000 Euros (about $14,135). Aside from the materials listed above, the handset also brings white diamonds, crafted into its navigation pad.

The Gresso Royal White Diamonds is the more expensive one of the two. Only 200 units will be produced making it a limited edition handset. All of its 23 gold keys are crowned with a total of 2.53K of white diamonds. It will be priced at 33000 euro
(about $52,000).

The collection will be presented at JCK Las Vegas Show, the leading jewellery fair in the USA, which debuts on May 30. Shortly after, the luxury handsets should be available for purchase.

The Jet will seat seven people. The cockpit will have two seats, and the second row will have two seats as will the third row. There will be a seat that can slide between the second and third row. The Jet will have two doors, and the parachute will be located in the nose.

Gemesis $500,000 Diamond Necklace

Island jeweler Lee Havens recently agreed to become one of the first high-end American designers to create fine pieces using cultured diamonds.

Havens is excited by the prospect of using colored stones produced by Sarasota-based Gemesis for his designs, though he certainly is not about to abandon what he calls "traditional" diamonds — what might be referred to as "mined" or "natural" stones.

Cultured diamonds, made by a process developed in Russia that mimics the natural development of diamonds, has been on Havens' radar for 10 years, but he said the quality of the Gemesis stones is what sold him on taking them on in his studio and store, 235 Worth Ave. He has yet to design a piece using the colored stones, which he said can be made in weights up to 4 carats with excellent results, but is featuring several pieces provided to him by Gemesis.

Among them is a $500,000 fancy vivid yellow cultured diamond necklace, set in platinum featuring 72 stones and weighing a total of 64 carats, which is being sold to benefit The Foundation for AIDS Research (AmFAR). Several ear clips, rings and pendants set with the cultured stones, which are priced from $20,000 to $40,000, will also be sold for benefit. Ten percent of sale proceeds will go to the charity.

The price of the Gemesis cultured diamond jewelry is approximately 30 percent of a "traditional" colored diamond piece.

"But they are diamonds," said the jeweler, explaining that they are graded the same way "natural" diamonds are by the Gemological Institute of America.

Havens, known for his experiments with new materials in his fine jewelry designs during his 25 years on the island, said he finds the cultured diamonds' environmentally friendly and conflict-free nature appealing.
