Today, at 9 a.m. in Italy, Fiat’s countdown has finally ended and first official photographs of new 500 Convertible have been revealed.

Lovely and sophisticated, this little cabriolet, that will be taking off its top at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show this March, features many innovations in a nostalgic way.

Its design remembers the historical 500 city car that was an icon of the Italian style. But, if its lines remember the past, comfort is contemporary because this car is an absolute join to drive.

Powered by a 1.2-liter and 1.4-liter gasoline powered engine, as well as a 1.3-liter turbodiesel, 500C will come equipped with start-stop technology, which should improve overall fuel economy by about 8 percent.

A more powerful Abarth edition is expected.

But if the Mini Cooper Cabrio that features a fully retractable rooftop, Fiat chose a folding-back canvas top that covers the roof and the rear glasshouse section, retaining the car’s standard pillars.

“I want Fiat to become the Apple of automobiles. And the 500 will be our iPod” said Sergio Marchionne, Fiat’s CEO, in an interview on the Italian newspaper, La Stampa.
