The Hottest Wedding Dresses From The Runway At Haute Couture Week

The recent Paris Haute Couture Week was both ethereal and inspiring, showcasing a series of newest styles in wedding dresses from the Spring/summer 2018 haute couture collection. Modernity has transformed traditional wedding dresses from the 19th century from austerity to a new, enchanting style that captures the most beautiful of silhouette that often goes beyond vanity and admiration.

Inspired by nature, surrealism and art, some of the trends and designer’s favourite choices to come down the runway shows featured sheer fabrics, silk, transparent effects, and precious details such as deep-cut neck line, voluminous wedding dresses, matched with impressive embroidered train and feather trains.

Very often, many shows would close with wedding gowns, sometimes in full meringue mode, and sometimes with off-the-wall creations or future-forward designs, scroll down to browse through some of the Spring/summer 2018 wedding dress trends, including Georges Hobeika’s voluminous wedding dress layers several tiers in a skirt that seems to evoke the petals of a flower for a fresh and extravagant look.

Men Spending More on Engagement Rings

According to recent statistics from Chillisauce, Christmas Eve is the most popular date of the year for marriage proposals, and it seems that hopeful partners are spending more than ever on engagement rings.

Wedding site The Knot has released the results of its ‘2015 Jewelry & Engagement Study’, surveying more than 12,000 US brides and 1,200 US grooms between 2014 and 2015 to uncover proposal trends in the US.

The survey revealed that ring budgets are bigger than ever, with men spending an average of $5,978 on the right bling. They’re also being more upfront about the price, with 68% of women aware of how much their partner spent on the ring.

Diamonds remain the number-one engagement stone of choice (84% of women received a diamond ring), although 8% of brides-to-be received a non-diamond precious stone engagement ring – up from 6% in 2013. The trendiest engagement ring setting is the halo, which tripled from 7% in 2011 to 22% in 2015. Eighty-five percent of men would rather buy a smaller, better quality diamond than a larger stone of lesser quality.

The majority of brides (67%) had researched rings before getting engaged, with 80 percent of men claiming that their partner had dropped hints about the style they wanted.

According to the men surveyed, it takes an average of 4.8 months to research and 3.6 months to find the perfect engagement ring, and more than three-quarters of men (77%) asked for parental permission before popping the question.

When it comes to the proposal itself, the act is increasingly social, with 45% of grooms proposing in a public place. Forty-one per cent of men even had a photographer or videographer capture the proposal as it happened.

Five royal family wedding cake slices up for auction

boxed slice of wedding cake

Slices from the cakes of five British royal weddings dating back up to 42 years have been put up for auction — accompanied by a health warning that they are “not suitable for consumption”.

The slices were collected by Queen Elizabeth II’s late chauffeur Leonard Massey, who kept them in the original packaging offered to wedding guests with monograms to celebrate the unions.

Most recent is a slice of brandy-infused fruit cake from the 2011 wedding of Prince William and his wife Kate, which has a guide price of $600-$800.

A slice from the 1981 cake from the wedding of William’s parents, Prince Charles and the late Diana, is expected to fetch the most with a guide price of $1,000-$2,000.

The oldest is from the 1973 wedding of Princess Anne, the queen’s second child and only daughter, to Mark Phillips.

The couple’s entire wedding cake was said to be five-feet six-inches tall (168 centimetres), the same height as the princess.

Also on sale are slices of cakes from the weddings of Prince Andrew and his now ex-wife Sarah Ferguson in 1986, and Prince Charles and his second wife Camilla in 2005.

The cakes will be sold at Julien’s Auctions on June 27 in Beverly Hills.

A wedding cake slice from the 2011 wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge has been sold at an auction in Beverly Hills for $6,000.

Auctioneer Julien’s of Beverly Hills had expected the cake to raise just $2,000 at most. But it was eventually snapped up by Gee Chuang, co-founder and CEO of Listia.com, for nearly four times as much.

The cake is presented in a special collector’s tin, engraved with the words “William & Catherine 29 April 2011” and wrapped in greaseproof paper, the same way samples of the cake were handed out to guests of the royal wedding. The box comes with an official wedding card and blank invitation.

Chuang purchased the cake as a way to promote his startup Listia.com, a marketplace for members to exchange goods, without exchanging money.

Fiona Cairns

In April of next year, when the couple marks their fourth wedding anniversary, Chuang says he plans to give away the slice on the site.

Created by baker Fiona Cairns, the eight-tiered cake was covered in 900 sugar flowers, and consisted of 17 individual fruit cakes. The cake was the centerpiece for the wedding and was the result of 5 weeks’ worth of labor.

W South Beach Unveils $1 Million Wedding Package

W South Beach

In what could go down as one of the most extravagant hotel wedding packages ever, the W South Beach has created a ‘Million-Dollar Wedding.’

As its name suggests, this one’s not for penny pinchers. If you literally have a million-dollar wedding budget and are looking for a one-stop shop, wedding planners over at the W South Beach in Miami have created a package described as the “ultimate in wedding extravagance.”

W South Beach living room

So what exactly does a million-dollar wedding involve?

Pre-wedding, couples are entitled to separate four-night stays — one for the bride and the other for the groom — in advance of the big day, as well as a seaplane excursion and a yacht dinner.

W South Beach bedroom

Spa services include a “complexion-boosting boot camp” for brides and ‘grooming’ services for the husband-to-be.

In addition to a wedding dress from Ever After Boutique and custom-designed tux, the package also takes into account post-wedding needs, such as “designer intimates” for night and day.

W South Beach bathroom

Come the big day, the hotel will provide a seated dinner for 175 guests catered by in-house restaurant The Dutch which serves American cuisine and is helmed by celebrity US chef Andrew Carmellini.

A team of photographers, and music — such as a seven-piece band and DJ are also included. Couples also get their own personal ‘Jeeves,’ or butler, to cater to their nearly-every whim and fancy.

After spending their first night as husband and wife at the hotel’s Penthouse Suite (pictured above), the couple will then jet off for a six-night stay at The Royal Estate at the St. Regis Bora Bora (pictured below).

Chanel launches bespoke bridal beauty service

Chanel Makeup

CHANEL has launched a new beauty service for brides at its Covent Garden and Bond Street boutiques in London, designed to help women prepare for the big day. A £90 (approx $150) fee gets you three bridal services — with a choice of wedding makeup consultation or tutorial, and fragrance and skincare consultations — and each service lasts an hour.

“The Chanel bride knows that the key to looking your best on your big day is about looking like yourself at your most beautiful,” explained the brand.

“It is having the confidence to direct your makeup artist or apply your own makeup, whilst relaxing in the knowledge that your skin is glowing and your fragrance carefully chosen”.

Chanel Covent Garden

The consultation takes you through four looks (engagement drinks, wedding day, honeymoon and rehearsal dinner), while the tutorial trains you how to do them yourself.

Fragrance and beauty consultations both do exactly what they say on the box, helping you to pick out the perfect products for your big day.

You can record your makeup looks, skincare routine and fragrance notes in the keepsake Chanel Bridal Journal, which comes as part of the package.

Add-on features with the wedding package include everything from a dramatic entrance aboard an Italian twin engine Augusta 109 aircraft — or by terra firma in a Rolls Royce Phantom — to accommodations, beauty, spa treatments and personal training sessions.

Couples can also develop a specially designed, bespoke wedding scent with a perfumer and take private lessons on etiquette and dance.

The Burj Al Arab’s Wedding in the Skies program starts at $55,000.

luxury wedding selfie

W Hotels will now provide couples with a “social media wedding concierge” at their New York locations to document their ceremonies for a mere $3,000 on sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram,

“It’s time to say goodbye to shameless wedding selfies and hello to a professional Social Media Wedding Concierge…” reads the press release.

Between creating Vine videos of the couple’s first dance, live-tweeting every line of the groomsman’s speech or telling Facebook friends who haven’t been invited to the wedding the precise moment when the couple says “I do,” the concierge will also curate a unique wedding hashtag and encourage guests to crowdsource content as well.

Online reaction has been swift and merciless to the new service, with critics calling it a step too far in narcissism and a laughable waste of money.

The service also comes with the creation of a wedding blog and a post-wedding Shutterfly photo album complete with a collage of the best tweets and Instagram photos from the day.
